turbo shops says " 3'' DP/exhuast is pointless"
My local turbo shop is rebuilding my turbo due to "oil starvation". ANYWAY. I asked him about some 3'' piping to build a DP and he says " 300hp turbo cars don't need 3'' exhuast, 2.5'' exhuast will flow just fine".
Well, that pretty much goes against everything I've ever heard/been told about turbo cars and exhuast...
My friend has a 550hp buick GN, and he's wanting a 4'' exhuast !!!
Also, this guy has an alum. 460 big block, twin turbo mustang that runs 6's with a steel body that weighs 2800LBS, and it goes well into the 200++ mph range.... SO he's a turbo smart bitch !!!

I think he's saying you dont NEED 3" for 300whp... still remains true that turbos love the least restictive exhaust, but I made 350whp no problem with my 2 1/2" cat back... if your looking for every bit of gains then go 3"

3" dp and exhaust = less back pressure = faster spool and more horsepower.
Doesn't necessarily mean you NEED to have it.

My exhaust shop also said that 3" was too big for a honda...Good thing all he had to do was weld some hangers on...
needless to say I already have the 3'' stuff on the way...
Calling a guy that #1 builds/tunes turbo cars "an idiot" kind says somethings about the person saying it...
I've personally seen his insane mustang that was built from the chasis to the manifolds in his garage. I've also seen a 260whp mazda miata, a 450hp Z24, and his's currently building a twin turbo kit for his busa.
I really don't need to defend him...
I'm sure he meant as it was meantioned above " only if your trying to get every last hp outta a set-up", but that happens to be esactly what I'm trying to do...

well if anyone has read Corky bell's turbo book. he shows a diagram that compares horsepower to exhaust piping diameter and apparently says like for me at 317whp
2 3/8 in piping is excellent. the diagram also shows that 3in piping would be ideal for like 450hp. so that shop you went to a is telling the true to some extent.

Well based on the title of the thread "turbo shops says " 3'' DP/exhuast is pointless"...I wouldn't say there's truth in that statement....."pointless"...come on..that's just a dumb statement.

Dude he is an idiot cause when I was using my 2.5 inch homemade downpipe(to get m ehome from the shop till the weekend was over to go to my muffler guy) the car was spooling so much slower than when I put my 3 inch dp on it makes a big difference maybe he knows his **** when it comes to big block turbo motors but dont listen to him on this one

Well maybe he is knows his stuff when it comes to big blocks and muscel cars, but that doesn't mean he knows a lot about boosted Hondas. And he obviously doesn't.

Ok syckturboITR, you got on that one, I choose a crappy title for the thread, sorry.
