Default need some opinions/advice on stripped tensioner bolt

Hey guys whats up. Well I was getting ready to crank her up for the first time since I have been rebuilding her car. The only thing left was the timing belt. Got it all installed correctly, however when I went to tension it, the f-in bolt only get a little tight and loosens again. I took the tensioner off and aluminum treads came out with the bolt wrapped around it. Now obviously I can't tighten the belt because the tensioner won't tighten.

What options do I have to fix the stripped hole in the block. What is the easiest? What is most effective? Help me out guys!!!!

Take it to a machine shop and have them install a Time-Sert.

The motor is in the car. I don't think I really want to drop it again for this. I can take the driver mount out and lower it enought to get to the tensioner.

Sometimes you have to do shitty and annoying things to fix a problem correctly. I'm sure you can fix it with it in there, but it probably won't be as good as having a timesert put in. Have you tried tapping to the next largest size bolt?

No, this just happened yesterday so I havn't been able to touch it and won't until the weekend. I need some options. Drilling out and re-tapping is one, anyone know of hand what the next size up is and will it fit thru the tensioner. Someone mentioned a heli-coil to me? Why does the block need to be all the way out of the car to do a time-sert?

I don't know if it does or doesn't...I just assume that it will be easier to get to for the shop. I don't know if you can do time-serts yourself without buying expensive tooling. I do know that timeserts are better than helicoils, but that is another option for you.

when i got my last motor it came with a stripped tensioner bolt. it sucked *** to get out, but a big *** breaker bar and a Bolt Out Kit from Craftsman did the trick.

Oh, I have no problem getting it out. The threads in the block are the ones stripped. I can't get it to tighten.

I did that not to long ago. I put a helicoil in it....this was installed in the car to. The hardest part of the install for me was cutting a drill bit in half so I could fit it in that little space. After I did that everything was pretty straight forward if you have ever installed a helicoil or time-sert before.

Good luck

Yeah tell me about it. That little crap pisses me off! How difficult was it for you guys to install the helicoil? I will definatley take out the driver side mount and drop that side a couple inches to where it should be a straight shot. Can anyone give a brief run-down on how to install a helicoil. I have never seen one so I am not familiar with it.

Nevermind, I found a write-up and how to isntall the helicoil. I also read that a tap and die set could be used to save original threads without re-drilling. Do you think this would be an option? Or are they too messed up given that the threads came out of the block wrapped around the bolt.

If the threads came out with the bolt, there is no saving them.
