You just do the flywheel? Not the clutch at the same time?

This question is kind of off topic, but I'm curious...

If you press the clutch and rev, will it still rev the flywheel?

Yup, and the clutch and pressure plate spin with it as well. They are all attached.

I just got a clutchmaster flywheel and I'm going to be installing that along with an ITR tranny. I can't wait. Glad to hear you're enjoying it. How much does the Toda weigh?

Shouldnt you avoid going with a flywheel thats TOO light(i.e. Clutch Masters which is just over 7lbs) because you lose torque off the line? Just thought I would mention that, and I guess it wouldnt matter as much if you were a road racer.

What kind of exedy clutch is good for everyday driving? Or is the OEM just fine? I'll probably go with the OEM clutch when mine wears out (a long time from now). Is a Toda flywheel suitable for daily driving?

From what I know, the flywheel doesnt matter nearly as much as the clutch does for daily driving. The clutch is what really affects you during stop and go driving. For instance, if you get a clutch like a race clutch, it will be very difficult to start moving from a dead stop(like a stop light) without chirping or spinning the tires because race clutches have NO SLIP. Once they grab, they hold, unlike the factory clutch where you can feather it and avoid squealing the tires at every stop light. So I dont think it matters too much which flywheel you go with. Generally, a lighter flywheel will spool up faster(good for road racing), however you supposedly lose torque off the line(not as good for drag racing).

Actually if the clutch is depressed just the pressure plate and flywheel will spin...

The disc is disengaged..

Clutchmasters flywheel (Aluminum)
Toda (chromoly)
Guess everyone is entitled to an opinion.

For my motor, the lighter it is, the better. Comptech is 6.7lbs. Moneyy...
I haven't seen any problems with aluminum flywheels. About 6 or 7 guys l know of locally that have them.

In the end, I don't think it's much of a difference (aluminum vs. chromoly).. it's up to the final user.

WTF? Can you elaborate on this? How is a flywheel going to affect torque? If anything, more power should now get to the ground because of less parasitic loss of rotating the assembly.....

Can someone explain why v8 guys want a heavier flywheel? Unless this guy was BS, he was going on about getting one that weighed more.
Are there negative side effect to lighter flywheel?

thanks,scott k.

its all about rotational mass and intertia... a heavier flywheel will have more potential energy, and will provide more off the line than a light flywheel will, however will become a burden at high rpms. For drag and road race a light flywheel is great - for autocross (unless your car is heavily prepared and on sticky tires) its not so great. I've driven on light flywheels and i like 'em and would use one for a daily driven car just because. Makes the car rev nice and quick.

daily driving so far has been great. the car revs alot quicker/easier, when pulling 1st to red line the tires start to break loose and i have a stock tranny. the toda is a very nice flywheel and haven't noticed any ill effects yet. can't speak on the aluminum vs chromoly issue cause i've never owned one before, so to each his own... so everyone go out and buy a light weight flywheel! the teeth on the toda are rounded so no starter issues and i'm running the stock clutch, cause i have a stock motor and don't plan any mods to the motor anytime soon so i figured the stock clutch would be just fine for me. maybe when i start making the money mike does i'll get the ats gearing and upgrade clutch at that time.
