how long do motorcycles engines last?
i know this question is a bit open, but for example, almost every early 90s honda ive seen easily makes it past 100, and some up into the 200xxx+... Do motorcycle engines just break down easier because of the higher revving, or do people just sell em to a noob who wrecks em when they get a newer bike? i know marmalades go over 50k on his, im nearing 24k, and just curious if i should look at sellin the bike for a newer bike in the springtime, or do some much needed....ok fine fine wanted upgrades like sprockets, chain, new brakes and ss lines...
People around here tend to see bikes as recreation rather than transportation and don't take care of them. Theoretically, you should easily clear 100K miles if you stick to the recommended maintenance intervals (especially valve adjustments), keep the bike in good tune (carbureted bikes especially, proper jetting is key), and closely watch known problem items (cam chains and tensioners in many Honda streetbikes). Warm it up before riding, change the fluids regularly and use GOOD QUALITY fluids and filters, and your motor should last a very long time.
Depends how you ride it of course. Motorcycle engines rev a lot higher than passenger car engines do and also stays at higher revs at an equal speed. So I'm sure there's going to be wear issues involved.
with proper maint. they will last a long, long time even with revving to a sky high redline the inline 4s have.
52k (miles) on my bike and no issues at all, but this is an engine known for longevity
