My brother's car has a problem where the hatch lock mechanism rattles over bumps. The dealership has already looked at it and was not able to fix it. Do any of you exhibit this problem? Are there any difference in design for hatch locks for DC2s? Any modifications that might help?

 

How do you know it's the lock mechanism? (the gasket can cause a rattle sound effect too) Are you certain it's the lock?

 

I guess it might not be the lock. Just something in that latch. He has narrowed it down to that area (stuffed newspaper in practically every crevice). You had a problem with a gasket?

 

there a numerous things that could be rattling. Try some pure silicon lubricant on the gasket for starters. Then have someone with a stethescope (sp) in the backe norrow it down for you. If it's not the gasket. At least you won't have to ride in your bosses CLtype S trunk like I did. (anything to be low on the layoff list.

 

I had this problem on my civic hb last night. I lubed the latches up with silicone lubricant and it helped quite a bit. It was squeaking as well as rattling and it helped both. It would probably be better to use a thicker grease. Maybe you've tried this already?
