Default Can you drive with ticking vavles?

I just did my 90k service for the first time. I took out the exhuast cam to replace the cam seal. I didnt adjust them because i didnt have the tool and i was to lazy after messing with all the belts and water pump and stuff. Now there is a ticking noise from the vavle cover. I was wondering if it is safe to drive around in till I adjust it.

Just use a 10mm box wrench, and bend the ends... like this:

Or you could go to Honda and get a valve adjustment tool. It looks like a screwdriver with a wrench around it. You might also need a couple of feeler gauges. Look under your hood for valve lash. The tool is kinda pricey, but it is worth it. Saves lots of time and lots easier

For B-series, here are the valve lashes:
intake: 0.15-0.19mm (0.006-0.007in)
exhaust: 0.17-0.21mm (0.007-0.008in)

The valve lashes aren't the same for B18B1 and B18C1. Make sure to use the correct ones.

That gets posted a lot, but my factory manual says different.

I'm pretty sure the valve lashes that are posted a lot are for the b18c. If I remember right the b18a is .005-.006 and .006-.007 for intake and exhaust, which I believe is the same as the b18b. Either way, check your manual!

I was reading on G2IC that this occurs most on the G2 Tegs. I know I have it, and I was thinking about adjusting them. One member said that if you adjust them, about 10,000 miles down the line they just start ticking again.

I just ordered the Valve Adjustment tool from SnapOn, but they dont carry the valve lashes thats needed for the B18b
does anyone know where to get valve lashes that are gauged for the b18b's?

They are called feeler gagues.

Valve lash is the specification, not the tool.

Try Mac Tools, Crafstman, ect. I also find it hard to believe that Snap-On doesn't make feeler gauges in that size.

Not difficult to find at all...your local Sears should have angled feeler guages on the rack.

I use the Snap-On/Blue Point tool, its ingenious. Every time I finish a 30min valve adjustment I seriously think about charging $30 locally and making some bank!

IMHO the bent wrench is sh#t. The first time I did a valve adjustment I used that method, couldn't get leverage at ALL, botched the whole job, and ended up driving 200 miles back to my apt. from home with one exhaust valve ticking with about .030" clearance instead of .007". Sounded like a damn diesel engine at idle.

Lucky for me I bought the 4-piece valve adjustment tool set from Harbor Freight back before they discontinued them. $25 for 4 different tools in varying sizes, and it works just like the Snap-On tool.

Thanks dude..valve lash is just the clearance specs then. I got a helms, but it can be a mission sometimes to find the right topics... like the torque specs for the bracket you have to take off for the ac belt. 2x14mm bolts... i just tighten them down to 40lbs

oh yea...also i notice the mount where you have to take the 14mm bolts off to get the ac belt off pretty busted. I mean the plastic inside was all cracked. WOuld that cause my engine to shake in the bay. I remember 3 years ago my engine was still at idle.
