Default code 1 oxygen sensor tried new one didnt fix problem come help me figure this out

K here is the deal.

I reset ecu and when i turn the key to the on position (im not starting the car) the check engine line comes out and thows the code 1. So I know it has to be something with wiring right? I've tried 2 o2 sensor and that didnt fix the problem both were brand new. THe car is running a 4 wire o2 sensor. I'm leading towards a bad connection but could anything else cause this? Is there way to test the oxygen sensor for volatage or anything?

if voltage drops at all like .1 would that cause it to throw a code?

Does your car blow black smoke out of the exhaust? Take out at least one of your spark plugs and snap a picture of it. That can tell us what the air/fuel mixture is like... Naturally, if the CEL just popped on one day, you replaced the O2 sensor (twice), there is obviously a problem. I'd just do that first before buying a new harness...

BTW, Code 1 is O2 sensor. If your CEL is on, and you are throwing no codes, then you need to have your computer checked out.

Will get a picture of the spark plugs soon. Im also running my wideband seperate and im getting reads of 12.5 - 13.8 when im driving around sometimes in power band im running at 15.7 at idle once warm im running 14.3 - 14.8 which is cool. My cell is coming on and I'm throwing a constant code 1. The problem is if i reset computer and pulled both fuses for 4-5 minutes. I then turn the key to the on position and the cell lights comes back on with out even starting the car up. Im just always throws a code one. I have tried 2 different computers a chipped p28 with stock gsr maps and a p72 (gsr stock computer). Now I'm just weirded out why it would throw code when i just turn key into on position that is why im wondering if a voltage drop when power goes to oxygen sensor when key is turned out would cause it throw code.

Its most likely something with your wiring. How is the 4 wire oxygen sensor wired into the computer? Check all your connections on those four wires. When you dissconnect the battery to reset the computer, wait 30 seconds before reconnecting the terminal. If all the wires seem to be good, check to see if you have the correct power, grounds, and signal at the computer comming from those wires. Good luck!

first off check to see if you are getting the voltage signal at the ecu. If you are, then check and follow the line to see if you have the signal wire(should be white) to D14 (p28). Make sure the green wire has been hooked up to a good ground(d22 on p28) . Get back to us, on what u find. And yes the ecu will throw a code without startup, if it doesnt see any voltage from the o2. And to the guy with the 41 code, thats ur heater circuit in the o2. Give us more info on ur setup...

Josh,

did you check continuity from the connections at the end of the pigtail harness to the black connector? Check each wire on the pigtail harness that goes into the engine bay. I checked all the connectors from the ecu to the first side of the pigtail. Check continuity from the second mating black connector to the engine bay.

probably not,... or else he would have started a thread with " something is wrong with my motor!! help! "

mine is throwing a code 1 on the cel also. but it only happens at the top of third gear. If I go and reset the ecu, there is no code thrown when I start the car, only when I go and go thru a by-run and I'm at the top of third gear does it throw the code. This is right after a new d15b vtec install, after my first one hydrolocked.

i believe that the ecu can trigger the o2 code if the o2 reading is too far off of 14.7 a/f

if the ecu determines LARGE changes to get an 14.7 short or long term fuel ratio it will throw a code.

I swictched out the plugs from zf611 to zf511 which where in my old d15b vtec and it took about and 1 1/2 hour worth of driving to get the cel code 1 to come on again. I'm going to switch out the plug wires next and maybe go back to a cold air intake once I buy a bypass valve, and see if that fix the problem.

Might want to check your tps voltages if the sensor is not held on the tb by the factory rivets.

It's held on by the factory rivets, what is the voltage supposed to be?

same thing. Im buying a new o2 sensor and seeign if that will fix it but i doubt it. My o2 sensor buying total will be at 450 dollars then After this im going to take it to the honda dealer if it dont get fixe and let them check voltage at the wires since no one knows what the voltage is suppose to be.

i'm having a similar problem. i get the O2 code after resetting the ECM and not even starting the car. i've gone through ALL the diagnostic steps outlined in the service manual, and it only points me in two directions.. replace HO2S or replace ECM. i've done both, to no avail.
i'm starting to think i have a short in my wiring harness somewhere.

boostedk20 mentioned something about soldering in a 10:1 resistor inline with one of the yel/blk power wires, and soldering the other end to pin D14, so this way the HO2S is always seeing between 1.0-1.3 volts. i have yet to try this, but he said it fixed his problem.

post any new info as you get it. thanks!
