Might have to sell the R...got caught street racing tonight
FVCK.
yeah, yeah. I know I'm wrong. Completely.
to me.
Well, the cops got me tonight. I *SHOULD* be in jail right now.
This ******* brand new truck tried to race me...so I gave in.
It wasn't just a streetlight race. I was already driving along when this guy started slowing down and speeding up on me. Well...I almost felt like I had to show this guy up, SO I DID.
I was going probably 100 mph down a main street (no traffic) beating the **** out of this damn truck. I ended up going through a yellow light that turned red AS I went through it. I slowed down and ALL OF A SUDDEN this cop car in ON MY ***!
...****. I knew I was busted.
He pulls me over and I shut the car off. He comes up to my car and he *knew* I ran the yellow/red light. He said I was going in EXCESS of 70-80 mph.
He told me he KNEW what my car was all about. He's seen them and knows what their capable of. He got my license/insurance card/registration and went back to his police car.
He comes back and tells me that I'm getting a ticket of Negligent Driving. He said he wanted to give me the ticket for Reckless Driving and then he could tow my car away and throw me in jail. The ONLY reason he didn't is because he couldn't prove I went throught a *red* light.
I got lucky I guess. If you want to see it that way. I could or SHOULD be in jail right now.
I have a court date set for Jan 23rd. What should I expect? What should I do?!

Negligent? what does that mean exactly?? as in what does it mean in the eyes of
the law??
It really doesnt matter what he KNOWS, its what he can PROVE in court( which may
or may not be a lot in court).

why sell the car? wat the hell.. just go to court.. pay the damn ticket.. you'll get a point or two on your license and thats it.. dont drive like a retard no more and thats it! keep your R and enjoy driving it normally. You wanna go wild take it to a drag strip or track.. which ever you like more, keep it safe
I don't know. Never heard of it. I guess it's not as bad as Reckless driving (which they would've towed my hybrid and threw me in jail).
Hey bro, fight the ticket. I've seen these tickets come and go. Just show up to court and fight it. And if you win, take the money you saved from not having to pay the ticket, and buy yourself a Valentine 1!!
i just got my second ticket for a speed contest a couple weeks back and I was going the speed limit, and still that is like 5 times as bad as negligent driving. Try and fight it, that's the best you can do.

I got busted for 103mph on the freeway..the cop gave me the same talk..he said he could take me to jail and impound my car..well he ended up letting me go and giving me a ticket for, speeding and following too closely...the fine ended up being $504 for the two violations...well i learned a big lesson...keep it off the streets and highways...
HAHA. Did you get caught in Irvine? Irvine cops are ********. One moron pulled me over because he thought the HID's on my S4 were too purple. He couldn't do **** or say **** about it because it's legal. I bet he felt really dumb.
what's your driving record, if it's only your first offense, and he didn't take your license away, then you should be okay, just pay the fine and take it easy man, we don't need to know the crash rating of itr vs the competition
Yes I'm a moron. Thanks.
I'm sure all of us have made mistakes. Some MUCH more severe than others.
Yes I won. What do you think? Maybe that's why I got pulled over. Oh...and BTW, he instigated the race, not me.

com'on bro, no point to rub it in now
i think everyone have the urge to pedal to the metal once in awhile, don't you? especially with the weapon we have
he just choose to do it in the wrong time/place, and i'm sure he'll probably do it again sometime in the future, but just remember the consequence, IT COULD OF BEEN WORST.

yeah yellow dragon you know better then that.. now if you got a ticket for racing an SS and spankin it at least by a car or two then its all good.. if i were in your shoes i wouldnt mind paying that ticket.. cause it would have been well worth it to see a domestic powerhouse in your rearview mirror, but to race a truck the hell were you thinking! lol, jfwy..

Todd-
Definitely, get a lawyer. Trust me, the consequences will be hated insurance increases for three years if you don't...
jason- who thanks his lawyer again for getting his 88 in a 55 reduced to a non-moving violation, and still feels $390 for representation was cheap compared to what could have been...

don't get a lawyer...you won't need one...just plead no-contest and apologize for what you did. Tell the judge that you know that street racing is a childish and dangerous act and you will not do it again....be sincere and the judge may give you a break....
so did he write it for the speeding or for running the yellow/red light??

Not trying to be a dick, but that's honestly the worst advice I've seen yet. Your driving record is not something you should "gamble" with...

Hey!
I have gotten out of seven speeding tickets becuase of my lawyer- he charges $300 a ticket.
Once I was racing a GSX down the freeway- being really stupid- and then I saw lights flashing way behind me. I thought I could duck in front of a semi after going around a curve- the GSX kept going- and then sneak off an exit. The cop caught up a lot faster than I thought. He got right up on my bumper and I pulled over.
He was pissed! He threatened to take me to jail- I pretended to be sorry for racing that guy. He said he could get me for wreckless- and that he knew we were going way over 120- becuase he was trying to catch up with us while we were racing and that was how fast he was going and we were still pulling away from him.
He did all the usual stuff and then asked if I had a job and if I had to work the next morning. I had a job, but lied and said I had to work in the morning. He gave me a ticket for going 95+ in a 60.
I went to court with my lawyer and some guy was using every defense he could find in books and on the internet right before my turn. The judge didn't budge. If I didn't have a lawyer, I would have been doing everything that guy had done. I thought the judge would at least lower his fines- but notta.
The judge called my name and my lawyer said that he would be representing me in the matter. The judge asked if there were any motions before the proceedings got started and my lawyer motioned to have the ticket dismissed becuase code xyz (I can't remember what the code was). The judge looked through the papers and picked up his gavel and said dismissed as he struck the gavel on the desk. It took about 30 seconds.... Every ticket has been the same..... Act sorry for speeding/racing, get ticket, send copy of ticket with check for $300 to my lawyer, meet him at court, he says a couple things to the judge, 30 seconds later: dismissed.
The last court date (Nov 20th) The judge called my name, my lawyer started talking while I was walking up to the little seat, my lawyer told me to sit down, as I sat down the judge said dismissed. I didn't even get to get comfortable in the seat!
I spend way too much on lawyer fees, but I have a perfect record. I know several city cops so they always give me warnings- it is the state troopers that never let me off with just a warning. My most recent ticket I was only doing 80, and the state trooper said that he had been trying to catch up with me for 6 miles- there was a lot of traffic.... I saw him coming from about 1/4 mile behind me and slowed down to the speed limit. He pulled right up behind me and gave me a ticket for following too closely and speeding 75+ in a 60.
Oops! That wasn't my most recent ticket..... That was the Nov 20th court date. My most recent one is schedualed for the 10th of Jan. I was racing some riced out car with a whole bunch of stickers- and wanted to make a point. I pulled away twice and slowed down and the third time I didn't slow down. I took it to about 135mph and the guy was waaayyy behind me and then was coming into a long sweeping curve and slowed to about 115. Then I saw the state trooper in the slow lane going about sixty. I slammed on the brakes and I couldn't slow down quick enough (I need to get the 12.1 inch Brake kit that fits in stock rims from FASTBRAKES when it is ready). I was still doing about 85 as I passed him. He gave me a ticket for 85+ in a 60.
Knock on wood, my court date is in less than a month.
Sorry this is so long.
CLFF NOTES: I speed a lot and pay my lawyer $300 per ticket to get me out of all sorts of speeding tickets- takes him about 30 seconds to get them dismissed.
GET A LAWYER!!!!!! It is cheaper than paying for the rate hikes your insurance company will give you for the next three years!
I only race when it is safe- like 4am-7am on a Sunday mornings when people are out enjoying there cars on the empty highways or when there is very little traffic or none. Go to the track to learn about your car and how to drive it- or desolate back roads that are closed to the public- but you gotta watch out for fallen trees, pot holes, or even washed out roads- there's always some reason they closed it.....
Remember to never endanger other people!

Yes, I know I don't have a Type R.... I haven't lost to a R on a windy road or in the straights yet- but it is more about the driver. So far I have only had the misfortune to run into spoiled rich kids who haven't matured and learned how to drive their car. While playing with two Rs on separate occasions, I have taken a yellow R on a sunny summer day and a black R on a late night run in the outside lane of one of my favorite on- ramps (520 west bound to I-5 southound for the Seattle peeps). I ahve to admit they have much better handling capabilities than my car and they sound way better too.
Damn it's early! I'm going to bed!

Negligent driving? Never heard of that.
In N.C.
-Drag Racing = Felony (impound car)
-Willful Contest of Speed = Class II Misdemeanor
Get a Lawyer... it will be the best money you will spend.
I had my contest charge dropped by getting a laywer.
I guess the rain that night did not help the cops position.

As noted before, get an attorney whose skilled at figthing traffic tickets. The BS you're hearing on pleading no-contest 99% of the time won't get you any reduction in fines or points, just maybe a little less of an ***-chewing by the judge. Trust me, been there, done that, and I never got out of a single ticket or got a reduced fine.
I've got a buddy, whose had many, many tickets and was on the brink of losing his license. In fact, we thought it was gone give all his tickets and the judges words the last time he was in court. In any event, his very skilled attorney ended up getting a couple tickets thrown out and one reduced to a no point change and a small fine. Well worth the cost of the attorney, lower insurance, and the ability to keep your license. You'd be a fool not to get a lawyer in this case.
How does the saying go....."A man who represents himself has a fool for a client" or something like that. I think aptly describes the situation here.

I was in my hybrid...not my ITR.
Either way, should I plead guilty or NOT guilty?? Will I need representation?

Wait wait, back up here.
He CAN'T prove that you drove through a red light? Since when do police officers need physical proof in a traffic violation? When it comes time for court, it usually turns out to be your word against theirs. I'm lost on that one.
Otherwise, do what you have to do for the court session, but learn from your mistakes!
