poopy vtec and CEL 3 on swapped gsr
Have a WEIRD problem with vtec can't figure it out. VTEC will sputter and convulse (feels very nasty) when it engages when I shift at high rpms. Tried a bro's P28 isntead of my P72 w/ hondata to see what it would do. It threw a CEL 3 and died. Got it started, after a few tries where it died when I hit the gas, and got on it to hit vtec. ****, no vtec. But, no vtec code thrown. So the car is in limp mode on the stock p28 but my hondata ignores this stuff, huh?
I have a swapped gsr with gsr harness in the civic. I'm using the firewall map plug not the harness plug b/c the other was making it choke and sound like ***, undrivable.
Also, I have a skunk2 manifold and RC 310 injectors.
Also, I get terrible gas mileage, 19 mpg last time I checked. I have black crap all over my car around the exhaust and it will spit it all over your leg if you are unfortunate enough to be right there when i rev the motor (I did this to my gf.
).
I am very very upset. Please help my poor car. Thanx for reading the long post.

Well the black crap all over is most likely caused by the 310 injectors. They are making you run rich since a stock ecu can't properly control them. Is your hondata tuned or running a base map?

tuned but not very well, im afraid. I had a well-tuned map that was tuned in Pheonix, AZ (by Peter). AZ is about 1500 ft difference than here in TX and it was suggested that I may not be getting proper fuel delivery so I had a guy here in Austin tune it (Omar) off a base map. It did not solve the black crap problem and did not help the mpg problem either.
BTW, I put my hondata in my buddy's gsr-swapped hatch and it made a huge gain in power. He had a giant grin on his face and made me promise to let him use it at the track. I want to have the face but right now mine is
My car doesn' t pull near as hard IMO and I have cams, ctr pistons...WTF.

lol.... same **** happened to my homegirl that walked behind my car when it was idling, and it spit at her. lol. Guess my car didnt like her
I had a problem kind of like this, and its due to running really rich. Since you through a stock chipped ecu in your car and it through a MAP code then your map has probably crapped out on you. Try swapping out the map (both if you have 2) then see where it goes from there. Run the stock chip first, because your Hondata wont read **** like that. See how it runs and if its still crap then find start over. But if your MAP is out then it would run like ****, and crappy gas mileage making your run rich as **** (like you are now) Hope that helps.

NOpe...wan't the map sensor. vtec won't engage w/ stock ecu at all.
Stock ECU won't even throw a code even though the **** is clearly not working...won't rev past 5000. at that point it starts to fart violently.
WTF!!!!???? I have a POS here guys.

well i had the same prob when i swapped my gsr into my ek hatch, check to make sure your vtec wire is making contact on your harness. I had the same problem when i tried to get on vtec and it would rev out at 5k. I am now starting to get the sputtering part in vtec have to get that checked.. hope that helps your 5k/vtec prob.

I have been running the car on a p72 Hondata chipped. vtec works with this ecu but before I hit the vtec crossover (~5800rpm-ish) it sputters and actually jerks the car violently, then gets past it to ~6000 smooths out in vtec on up. I realized something was not working right when I tried the stock ecu and it won't enegage vtec. IT DOESN'T THROW ANY CODES, however. The hondata ecu is forcing it or something like that.
With new info added, i would check your VTEC connection, make sure everything is on there right and no wires are loose and being able to touch anything. That is just ******* weird.... maybe your Hondata isnt tuned correctly at 5800 to 6000?
also make sure your map sensor is actually connected to the ecu.. you should be useing the MAP plug fromt the engine harness.. why doesnt that work? look into it...
