Default exhaust rattle..

ive had my exhaust on for a while now and theres one thing about it that bothers me.. when starting to move in 1st gear, i get this rattle like somethings hitting something else.. however the weird thing about it is it only happens when my car isnt warmed up, after about 5 mins of driving it goes away.. anyone know what this might be?

It's hard to discern such a proble because it can be a variety of things. Best thing to do would be to jack your car up (safely) and have someone listen for where the sound is coming from while you give it some gas in 1st gear. It can be a variety of things...

Every now and then when ever i've got people in the back seat my exhaust hits the tow - bar which makes a rattling sound. I cant explain why your rattle only happens when your cars cold though.... maybe it's something to do with the higher rpms which come with the choke being on??

Yea I've got a small rattle in the back as well. When someone crawled under there, the exhaust rattles enough to hit the rear LCA, or at least I think that's what it's hitting. Either way, it sounds nasty when my car's cold and in first gear in the morning. I hate that sound.

Could it be from the cat becoming old and restrictive over time? What year is ur car...

almost all of the 'rattling exhaust' problems i hear about are due to heatshields. check under your car to make sure none of the piping is touching the heatshields. readjust the hangers if necessary. if it helps, uninstall and reinstall your exhaust to insure proper clearance.

That's true too... I remember when my heat shields were rattling like crazy around the cat. I just took'em out though, and haven't had any problems since. My shifter does get warm from time to time though...

at least your car didnt fall off of 4 jack stands some how and there happened to be a jack stand under your muffler to support it while ur bolting it on resulting in a crushed *** muffler. haha cuz it happened to me.

It might be rocks in your muffler, i had that and it cost me 300 bucks to find that out. check for rocks in and arround muffler area first!

Same thing would happen to me until I tightened the screws on the skid plate for my header. Then it.....magically....disappeared

If it's not the infamous exhaust rattle that comes from the A-pipe on the stock GSR header, try checking heatshield bolts on your header and cat.

hey, the problem might be simpler than u think. do u have a fiberglass bumper or a weld that came off. a muffler shop could take a look at it and tell u whats goin on, and fix it if its a minor problem for less than $10-15.

My friend had to get his muffler rewelded so the muffler was hanging a little lower. his muffler would rattle on a cold start cuz of higher revs the muffler would shake a bit more and start to rattle against something, and once warmed up it would shut up.

my exhaust rattles from 1600 to 1800 rpms and then stops. it usually only does it with someone riding with me or if i hit big bumps. it is hitting the rear sway bar or the bottom of the car. it hits because the bend is to steep though cause i had a muffler shop make fit a crx thermal to my da. not a big deal and long as it does not rest against the gas tank.

I have the same exact problem. I think it's because I don't have a resonator from the cat-back.

I don't know if that exhaust comes with a resonator but most do... I took the heat shield off the cat and that didn't fix it.

I might take the heat shielf off the exhaust manifold today and see if that fixes it.

The noise goes away after the car warms up though, which is what's weird.
