Seat won't fit with rollcage...Need to cut, legal?
My seat (Sparco EVO2) won't fit with my rollcage (00 civic hatch). The side bolster 'wing' is touching the diaganol bar. I have tried to move the seat as close to the center of the car as possible but it still isn't going to fit.
I have come to terms with the fact that I am going to have to trim the seat a little bit (its painful tho, spendy *** seat!) but I just want to make sure I am not going to get into trouble with any rules/regulations. I have looked around but I haven't found any mention of this. The car is just going to be used for drag and *maybe* a HPDE or two.
The cover on the seat comes off so I will only have to trim the actual fiberglass. After putting the cover back on it shouldnt look too terrible. What would be the best plan of attack to cut this? It will only need something like a half circle cut into it so the bar can rest against it.

Unfortunately not at the moment. The car is across town and the seat is in my living room
I have measured about 10 times now and the only thing I see that might be considered another option would be to raise the seat up some more. That *might* be an option but I will need to get in there with a helmet and everything to simulate the exact amount of headroom I would have.
The other option might be to get rid of the crossbraces where the OEM seat mounts and bolt it directly to the floor, but I am not sure I will be able to see.
My original plan was to mount the sidemounts to the front cross brace and the floor (in the back). Much like this:

I certainly won't touch the seat unless its absolutely 100% necessary, but I am wondering if its gonna be an issue. I coulda swore I have seen threads dealing with this (one was a momo seat with the whole side chopped off) but I can't find them.

Personally, if you have the room I would just make some custom rails to pull the seat a little inward. That's what Scott and I always do and it works just fine, but most of the time we're working with smaller seats. Due to the fact that I don't know what angle your side bars come down at I just can't picture how much room you really have. Are they attached really high to the main hoop? Just curious but who is doing/did your cage, Russ? Good Luck
Thanks for the offer. I really like the EVO 2 though. I bought it after sitting in about 20 different seats...hopefully I can get it to work (hopefully w/o cutting but we will see).
