front strut/suspension TIE DOWN
I've seen some of the drag cars run a chain tie down on the front suspension so it doesn't bounce around up/down so much. Anyone have pixs???
Your talking about limit straps. This prevents the suspension from lifting up on accel and breaking the tires loose. I'll post some pics in a few days. I working on a set right now. I'll take to the track and let you guys know the benefits.
After the times we ran this past weekend. I'll tell you NOT to use them. The only thing we have changed on the car in the past two months, and we stayed glued to the track all the way down. Before the tires would break lose in 3rd and 4th.

This post makes no sense to me, are you endorsing them or not? I am confused!

So your saying dont use them because its makes the car hook and run good times?

I dont know about the other guy, but they helped my 60' time and the 330' time. Spent a total of $6 at Lows to try it out. Ended up leaving them on the car. I also was able to preload the front spring, making it stiffer. Helped in compression during braking. I'll get some pics tonight.

Okay cool, you guys were confused too, hehe, j/k
Here's a pic of the limiting straps Tony did for Deepstage. We have them on a couple of our cars too.

he is saying that we have had better luck without them
we have been running the limiting straps all season and took them off recently and the car has been running its best times all year - the 60' time has stayed about the same and we feel the front end stays more planted on the top end
with limiting straps - 10.07
without limiting straps - 9.92

As promissed. Let me say first, Yes, I'm sure it couold be done better, Its probably not the best way to do it, yes, I'm on a budget, and no I'm not a pro.
This entire set up cost me about $6 from Lowes hardware store. I got (2) 25" long pieces of steel cable. Cant remember the size. I then got 4 cable clamps. I went a size bigger on the clamps for easier assembly/disassembly

The next pics kinda speak for them self.

Now to preload the the springs, I first cranked the coil overs up as far as I could. I then took a strap and hooked the jack to the chassis. As the car trys to move up with the jack, the strut spring pushes down, allowing you to preload the spring. Simply jack it up until you reach your desired ride height, tighten down the cable clamps and go see what you think.

Have about 30+ runs with them. Launching around 8000rpm with 24.5x8.5x13 slicks cutting 1.60-1.64 60' times. The only thing that even shows wear in the controll arm and the paint. Helped my 60' time some but not near as much as the 330' time. Car would try to nose dive going from 1st to 2nd. If I had the money, stiffer springs and a re-valved strut would be there.
Have you noticed any difference from not having both sides preloaded the same like a pull to the left or right?
I'm interested in trying this but I'm concernd on the safety factor still...

the tie-downs should not be preloaded once you set you suspension height and alignment all you want to do is from keeping the front end going up, you should just strap them when you are set. Don't preload because your corner weight will be off you might have the car to heavy on one side which in turn will have one tire getting more traction then the other.
i had my car corner weighted on scales and got the front within 2 lbs of each other and then just tied the straps in place without preloading and was getting 1.34 60ft all day in houston and dallas.my car was done by Mike Duffy racecars from oklahoma (scales and alignment by duffy).

If you are going quick on the last have like 140 and up I think that they unable the car to follow the track . Not all tracks are perfectly flat and when you hit a low spot at 150 those straps are gonna prevent your your suspension from staying glued creating a loss of traction and potentially dangerous situation .Most of the fastest cars don't run them from what I see.
they have been on car since the start of the season and that was 10 different tracks with no problems, but thank you for that info that everybody could make there own determination on what is best for them.

I see that as being a possibility when you preload them, but if you don't preload them then your shock/spring should still have the ability to compress and rebound from the compression.Without it preloaded, all the strap is really doing is preventing the spring from unloading further when the weight transfer's back.
