NOPI & NHRA Rule Rumors
I heard that in NOPI the Pro FWD cars will run with the Pro Outlaw RWD cars in 2005 if the FWD car has a forward facing engine, and the FWD tube frame cars with a conventional transverse mount engine will run the Pro 4 cylinder class. So does that mean in NHRA something similar is on the way? So Kubo will run with Efantis in Outlaw and John Brown FWD type car will run with Kenny Tran in Pro 4 cylinder. This is an effort to fill the classes which I think sounds pretty good. The problem would be you would have to slow down the RWD cars in order for the FWD cars to be even at current speeds. We need Rado to come out and lower the bar.
I also heard that the NDRA series might implement added weight to the K motor in Pro Stock. This I believe will be a hard thing to even up when the K motor currently is a tenth from the B and H.
We shall see.

i hardly doubt they will go back to running fwds against rwd in the pro class for modified and pro fwd. they just split it up two years ago. why go back. maybe it is good for ndra cuz they only get like 2 pro fwd cars a race. so they could put them into the pro outlaw rwd. but NHRA is going to stay the same. I think nhra had around 7 pro fwd cars last race.
after you have made it a point that FWD cars can't goes as fast as rwd. well at the time they made the decision 2 years ago. Why go back on your word. I think that next year the pro fwd class is going to have a very good turnout. maybe not at NDRA but definately at NHRA.
Actually, at e-town there was 5 Pro Fwd cars that qualified, and only 4 made eliminations. and there should be much better turnout next year but it might be in the NDRA, many current cars under construction are using a V-drive which is currently outlawed in the NHRA. hopefully they will let Rado and others compete.
i think until the vdrive is experimented more with high horsepower motors all of those cars won't race in nhra. so hopefully see some more cars in pro outlaw fwd.

What I heard is that all pro 4 cylinder cars that run aftermarket trannys(x-trac) will run in the pro FWD class. That includes the pontiac guys(Ladwig, lummus).Thats just what I heard for the 05 season.

So those with xtrac or gm trannys will be moved up to pro fwd? tube chassis vs. uni-body chassis? I sure hope not.

I think those Hot Rod/Pro 4 cyl vehicles with the aftermarket trans should move up into Pro FWD. Most of them have very little unibody structure anyway, and are more competative with the Pro Fwd cars which would help that class. Also they would be able loose some weight moving up to that class which might even make them faster than the current Pro FWD vehicles. Hot Rod/Pro 4 should be Stock transmission with a 26" max tire height which would cut down on breakage which would keep the event moving instead of watching the track being cleaned. Also you would see more new vehicles participating and closer races.

Chuck was breaking just as many trannies on 26's as he does with 28's. Just something to think about.
As far as moving hot rod cars to pro classes, I think it's a bad idea. The pro cars have too many advantages over the hot rod cars. You can't get a hot rod car down to pro weight, I don't even think anyone has been able to meet the minimum weight for hot rod class. Most cars are at least 100-150lbs overweight, without ballast. The pro cars can also fit a bigger tire, which the unibody structure limits. The transverse engine layout is another downside to a unibody car, as the weight isn't as far forward as most pro cars. The pro class just needs a bit more time, most cars are already stepping it up there. There is a mid 7 sec. car and two 7.70 cars already, and there's more coming. How are you gonna put low 8 sec. very dialed in cars with 7 sec. cars that still have alot in them. It'll be worse than the hot rod class is now. The stock tranny low budget teams are running 8.5 to 8.8's consistently if their on their game. Now, if these teams just don't have the knowledge to go that fast, then you can't blame the people that do. It's not money. Chuck won the NOPI championship on a stock honda tranny and a 71mm turbo with no nitrous. It doesn't get any simpler than his setup. It's all about hard work and determination. If a 20,000 tranny gives you 2 tenths, but stops breakage, then it doesn't seem fair to bump those people up a class where it's a whole different ball game...

VERY true..
VERY true..
The only way to make that work is a head start index for the hot rod cars. Combining aftermarket tranny hot rod cars with pro fwd would be the end of those cars, they just would not make any sense to build anymore.

Tony you are so right. Almost every car in the hot rod class has the potential to be running low to mid 8's with nothing more than the right adjustments but instead of testing, researching, and thinking, people have the wait up till I get there approach instead of saying, "ok now I know what's possible how do I get my combo there?" Tony you know there isn't a magic part that makes someone go fast and if anything could be called a magic part it would be a data logger, which gives you knowledge which most teams are lacking. I haven't run a ton of events this year because I am testing, gathering knowledge, and getting the car figured out. A trannie will make it easier yes, but that's not what makes a car fast in the first place. You can put an Xtrac in Angela Proudfoot's car and she ain't running 8's. know what I mean? The laskeys are a great example of trying something new that doesn't cost a ton of money using their brains to try and figure it out. Give it time the classes are fine the way they are, just some minor adjusting here and there and the gaps will close. Let's go racing!!

Sav, I agree! there needs to be some adjustments but nothing major.
Does anyone know when 05 rules for both Nopi/Nhra will be out?

Should see most at or right after SEMA from what I have been told. There might be some slight rules before the end of the year.
