BERGENHOLTZ GETS TRACTION

BERGENHOLTZ GETS TRACTION

Sport compact racer Ed Bergenholtz was out testing his Pro Front Wheel Drive Mazda at Irwindale Dragstrip getting ready for the Nitto NHRA Sport Compact World Final at Pomona on October 23-24. Bergenholtz liked what he saw with his new chassis set-up and a new MoTeC engine management system that utilizes traction control. As Ed said, "The car ran the best numbers ever, a 1.26 60-foot time, and without a slipper clutch like most of the other teams run!"

Go get 'em Ed & Ron!

We have some testing on the car with some times that blew our minds. We finally got a handle on a few things and should be able to progress even further. Pomona will tell the tale! Should be able to have some good times. See you all there!

congrats on good testing guys. Sounds like there is going to be very very good competition in Pro FWD! Uh Oh GM...lol congrats again. And i was just about to post something about traction control until i saw that it is legal for Pro FWD. Good Luck Guys
Actually for a few years when the Pro FWD class and the Modified class were together you could not run tracion control or wheel speed sensors. Hehe cause we were faster in the FWD. So they outlawed it against us. And than they outlawed our splitter. Probably within the last two years they made it legal again.
wouldnt u be able to setup tc how the aem does it. if i recal correctly it doesnt need a speed sensor or a speed imput. it does it with change in rpm over rpm... i think.... and if you do need a speed sensor wouldnt u be able to use something similar to the aerodynamic sensor that motec sells??? couldnt that calculate speed?
hehehe i'm sure if it is possible, no one will tell me i'm right.

Nelson was a 1.23 60' on his 7.4 pass. Traction control work by measuring the front wheel speed vs. the rear wheel speed. The difference in rotational speed between the two ( tire diameter compensated for ) tells the tale on a graph. The computer allows a certian amount of wheel slip then starts to cut the ignition to let the rear wheel catch up to the front ( drive ) wheel. There is more to it than that, but I am tired and have to put the back-up motor together tonight. Another long day at the office.....
Traction control has been legal for at least two years. We have had it on the car since day one, but have never got it to work for us.

Our team will not promise anything for Pomona. All I know is that we did four passes total at only eighth mile. We ran three 1.26 60 foots with one 1.30 60 foot. We know exactly what went wrong on the 1,30. I have been studying footage of the car repeatedly two hours a night and know we can possibly do better. If we can emulate /the figures GM is pulling it might give us a chance. We have four brains on the team soooo we shall see. The learning curve will be steep for Pomona. Thank you to all the fans who support us. We will try our hardest and smartest to bring home something respectable whether it is a win or a respectable number with a car that is still worked on at home as well as a very very humble budget. We gonna do it as I said again for all the people out there who don't have a lots of $$$$$$$.
