There are so many imitations that it's really hard to tell. The only way that I know of is to see it still sealed in a honda bag.

you can also tell by the price.. but who cares?

If you want a real one buy it off a type R owner or the dealer...

Its just a piece of metal with some writing on it... they are all the same..

I got one off of ebay that looks just like a real type R for 5.95 plus 2.00 shipping. Looks perfect, except that the numbers are sideways, meaning the diagram is 90* to the way the shifter moves. Other than that, it's awsome. Might wanna look into that.

I think yours is fake. I have a real one that my friend jacked out of an R from a dealership, and it doesn't have a grainy texture like that. It looks more like the other pictured.

Fake! I have one laying around just like that, its a little bit "grainy" to the touch, and relatively light right?

I had a fake one for a while, it's grainy and light. I now have a skunk2 ****, same design and function as the type r, at a fraction of the price.

the imitation one is lighter and when u install it you feel like your going to break it. personally i like a shift **** with a bit more weight, i feel more under control!

well, the weight gives you more interia (whew, physics) that helps cuz it doesnt take as much force to get the car into gear, kinda does it under its own weight...
I have a fake one that's grainy and heavy...
