NASA Membership
Just noticed on the NASA NAtional page that there's a discoutn fro getting your membership in before January 10. Just $25.
Since the Registrar is NOT taking any membership this year, I would recommend you get this in soon and take advantage of the discount

so, I finally log in to the national web site, and I am updating my personal info... One of the required fields is the "home region" and Virginia is NOT one of the options... Hmmm.
* help *
EDIT-1: and after I submit the info, I try to renew my membership... guess what? the site crashes with an
"Action prohibited due to security. Insufficient access for requested action at /usr/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.6.1/SPOPS/Secure.pm line 161. "
error after I entered my credit card information. I have had the worst possible f...ing luck with NASA national. When I first tried to get my membership it was a horrendous hassle going through them. I love NASA and all, but they REALLY need to get their **** together, if you'll pardon my french.
EDIT-2: So now what? I did not see any contact information for the national office on the "contact" page. That figures. Any help from our helpful local NASA rep would be appreciated, since I know that at least you guys have your act together.
EDIT-3: Found phone number, surprise, nobody there. Left message, and currently not holding my breath as to whether I will get a call back. Still angry. Nothing pisses me off more than people who put features on their web sites and don't bother to test them - and then don't answer their phones. Customer service rating = 0 currently. I'm glad our local virginia people are better than that.

Another question:
I never recieved a membership card or any sort of verifiction that National knows I am a member. I don't think I've ever been given a member number either (maybe I have and just forgot about it?). Should I have?

you can try and login to their web site using your LastnameFirstnameZIP (e.g. AlistairHastings20166) as a login and 12345 as a password. If it lets you in, you will be able to see whatever info they already have - good luck renewing your membership though. Argh.

Ah the wonders of computers.
I understand that our region site is down for some reason. I thought however that people could re-up their membership anyhow.
I will contact CA and see if I can get anybody to tell me what is going on.
Since ALL memberships MUST be renewed in January, it does not matter - AT THIS POINT - if you got anything last year. If you are not there, just go on as a new member.
ONLY THOSE PEOPLE WHO GAVE MEMBERSHIP MONEY WITH THEIR NOV ENTRY NEED NOT DO THIS.
I will send you membership $$ in for you. (and email you a confirmation). If you have a question/problem/opportunity for me to look into, send me an email.

Well, actually your complaint has been heard. I am the newly hired National Chairman and Elise just called me to see if I could work on the problem. As some of you know, the membership process was not great last year and had a ton of manual entry process. With manual process there tend to be more errors. We just launched the new website last night and have since processed many memberships just fine. There are obviously a few bugs that we need to kill so our web team will email you to help find the program and get you squared away.
Follow the instructions to see if you are in the database and if you can't seem to locate then create a new account. If you register with the new system and you get accepted you will get a card and you will be set moving forward. Sorry for any problems in the past.
If you have any problems email socalinfo@nasaproracing.com

Unfortunately yes. The memberships are valid on a Calendar year basis. However if anyone purchased a membership after Nov 1st then they will be carried forward for the entire 2002 year. We have decided to keep the membership fee very cheap at $30.00 and eliminate the extra administrative costs to run a revolving yearly membership program. If we did that it would be $60.00 to handle the erratic mailings etc. If someone does not have a membership and signs up mid year to attend a single event then another 30.00 is nothing compared to a 500-1000 race weekend. We want long term members that are loyal to the organization and for those people it will be the best deal around.
Signup before Jan 10 and it is only $25.00. We did that for folks like you who were not aware that all memberships expire on Dec 31 and make the pain a little less. Nevertheless, I hope you understand.
Thanks,
Ryan

Out of curiousity, since you are here, what is NASA's overall opinion on the Honda-Challenge series? Is it even known on the national level that we are doing this?
Matt
Ryan, I signed up for two years of membership. My card says it is good until Sept. 2002. Do I need to sign up for the next year? I am in the SF region. (Or do I need to contact Laresse with this ?)
Thanks, Mike
Thanks, Mike
Hey, I am now officially impressed. After my bitchy posts, and my _not_so_nice_ message that I left last night, I came in this morning to find a message informing me that my membership had indeed been renewed, and my region assigned to Virginia.
So it looks like the national NASA office is actually on the ball this year. I take back my previous bad mouthing and replace it for a commendation of their prompt response to my problem. um, sorry I got upset...
Good job on the site, it's a good first step.
Thanks guys and gals of NASA, both locally and nationally.

Any word on family rates? (no I haven't looked at the web site yet).

If the both of you sign up that's $50 at the going rate. That's $10 cheaper than last year. and $45 less than SCCA. If your kids aren't participating.
Something to think about for next year maybe....
I am sad to say yes. Unfortunately as Ryan explained, it was not possible to do this any other way AT THIS POINT. All memberships collected in November will be applied toward 2002 dues. Credits will be issues toward a future event for those people. I cannot back date it any further.Elyse

Well that sucks. I guess I can't complain too much since $179 (with membership fee) was pretty reasonable for an HPDE, but I wish I had known that was the case.

By special deal do you mean the $25 new membership, or the price I paid (139+40) for Sept.23rd (which Corey had posted on the prelude board)?
I can't afford to do more than dabble in road racing, so that membership expiration kinda hurt. I'm trying to decide how many events I can afford a year to see if it's worthwhile.
