Default B18B Dyno Graph

Here is my dyno graph, I am running a TOTALLY stock bottom end, all of my power is coming from my head. The dyno was conducted use my stock civic cx exhaust and muffler, open header I would be easily over 170whp

very impressive numbers... do you have a completely built head and stock bottom end?

161 whp and 127lb torque, not bad for a non vtec 1.8ltr.
I am selling this shortblock and putting this same head on a built B20 using a 4-1 Kamikaze, hp should be MUCH higher, I will keep you all posted

Bottom end is BONE STOCK, all power is from head and a shitty DC 4-2-1

Hmm...heres a question.

How does a Bosch dyno compare to a Dynojet? I know for example that a Mustang dyno differs..and if you dyno say 150 Hp on a Mustang dyno..tahst really like 160-165 on a Dynojet.

Does teh Bosch dyno give teh same, lower, or higher results then a Dynojet?

The Dynojet is more generous than the Bosch. The same day I was dynoing, a dewd came in with a 91 240sx Sr20DE-T. The previous dyno he used was a Dynapack 3000, according to that he was laying down 255 whp, but on the Bosch he had only 235. **** if I was on the Dynopack I would be at 200whp................LOL

Its nothing all that spectacular, I just got a guy who knew what he was doing when he ported my head, I am also running 1mm oversize valves

I still question myself about not using oversize exhaust valves. I only installed the 1mm oversize intake ones as I was told that there weren't much difference on the exhaust end. Also, on Endyn BBS, I heard that installing oversize exhaust valves is more for having better seating rather than making power. Is this true?

I was speaking with my head porter and he said oversized valves will not help much in the head since the seats are already so close to the edges of the combustion chamber circle. Anyone have pics of oversized valves or can elaborate on the benefits of it? I was basically explained that it'd be like half gain, half loss, since you'd improve flow on the interior side of the CC but it will worsen on the outer edge. More explinations the better, so i can speak with him about it. I am planning on running 403s, milling the head 15-30 thou, p&p, 5ang valve grind. If I went with oversized valves, I'd probably only go with a 3ang VG...

the non-VTEC head can use all the help it can get in comparison to the VTEC head. the VTEC head has larger intake and exhaust valves and the ports/bowls flow better.

adding oversized intake valves WILL help provided the person who is porting the head knows how to modify the chamber and intake ports according to the larger valve.

oversized exhaust valves will help also but the gains are more notiocable on the intake side.

if you plan to make lots of high RPM power in the future then go for the oversized valves. if not then leavde the stock ones alone.

on a side note endyn is starting to sell oversized intake and exhaust valves for a fraction of the cost of what ferrea wants.

Endyns are oversized 0.5mm, and I spoke to larry about them. They opted without a swirl polish. I may go for those valves, but I'll have to discuss it with my head porter. As for him knowing how to modify chambers and intake ports, he's got 20 years experience porting heads, and his main career was porting heads for Ray Barton and thus setting 13 NHRA World Records.

nonvtec: did you keep your stock valves or are you running oversized? How much power did your car make the last dyno run, and was that with the ITR pistons or without?

non-vtec nailed it on the head, the LS head is the worst head of the entire B series family. My baseline figures for this motor was only 118whp, an aggressive port and oversized valves and the crower 404's made over 40whp! The graph does not lie. I was the last car sheduled that day so due to time constraints I did not have the ability to run an open header, I was left using the POS Civic CX stock exhaust and muffler Had it been open header those numbers would be closer to 180whp, not bad for a bone stock bottom. I am in the process of building a non-vtec B20 using this same head. The B20 I will drop in is a 1998 JDM B20 with Crower rods, knife edged crank, 84.5 12:5:1 JE'S, Kamikaze with 3' collector and Magnaflow 3'' cat and magnaflow bullet muffler, and speed garage ECU. I will be posting up the results of that as soon as the motor gets finished. BTW-I am looking to sell this B18B shorblock if anyone is interested, it only has 11k miles on it

Actually, if you referring to GSR, then only the intake
valves are bigger (GSR 33mm vs. LS 31mm), but the
exhaust valves are same 28mm for both.

I'm not too sure about the ITR ones though.

If Honda decides to only enlarge the intake valves
then I guess the benefit from the exhaust valves
are very minimal if any.
