Well today was my first day at school tig welding. I messed up a lot! But Im starting to get a hold of the process and ways to correct them. I messed up and went back over the first part, that is why there is no penetration. And then the last 2/3's were done wayyyy too hot. You can see the heat effect zone drops way down on the metal. That is why there is a big hole on the end, the metal started to boil really bad. Any comments welcome

Its alright...its school thats for sure.
About the only big time advise I could give you is get a place not in student housing and dont listen to every thing your recruiter tells you. Remember, they dont get paid if you dont go. They pretty much tell the truth like a used car salesman. My tuition was about 32 grand I think for 12 months, not counting living expenses

we had a speaker from wyotech in our auto tech class, he said the school day is like 7am to 5pm or something crazy, is that true?

I want to be a chassis fabricator, but im a poor bastard.
Whats required to try and get in? Do you just need 30k and a gr12? Or do you need special science and math etc.

Being a welding moron I was at the welding supply place today scoping out a tig welder. I've never done it, but if I pulled off that weld you did I would be damn proud. Good job.
what else does wyotech offer? I'm finishing up my physics degree (chem minor/business minor) @ Linfield and Im looking around to see what else I could use to help me along.
I looked at UNC's Motorsports Engineering Program..nothing for graduates..just undergrad.

Shitty part about it was I praticed for 8 more hours today and my welds kept getting worse. Every time the teacher would come help me they would look like the one i posted, but when he left, they looked like absolute crap

That looks great for your first day of tig.
The middle part looks just fine.
It can take a while to get used to the pedal, especially if you've done a lot of mig and stick in the past. Just remember to let the pedal, and not your travel speed control your puddle size.

The one weld that is messed up towards the end is where my teacher was trying to show me how to get rid of the buble at the end...didnt work out too well
