Default d17/y8 crx swap?

okay, one of my friends just bought a 90 crx Si. there's no motor but still has tranny. he's wanting to do a swap but didn't know if anyone had done it yet. he's wanting to put swap in a d17 and use the crx tranny, then maybe add a y8 head. would there be any gain from the y8 head and has the d17 swap ever been done before? thanks for the help.

you will have to use the 88-00 civic engine variants.....the D17 will not fit..it only shares the D series name....if you want vtec?
D16Z6
D16Y8
ZC vtec (JDM D15B)
any other variant of vtec in d-series is for economy, and please steer clear!
