Shocks are blown and dead. Which ones would work with my springs?
My shocks are blown. I need to know which ones would work with my springs. I have a set of H&R Race Springs which drops you 2.5 inches. Now i dont know much about shocks and springs so which ones do i get? Will any aftermarket shocks work with my springs? Any suggestions? Thanks.
2.5 inch drop is gonna be hard on any shock out there. you have dramatically reduced the amount of travel in the suspension...
any will work though....

Well listen to this and tell me if it makes any sense. I went to a auto body shop today and had this guy check out my suspension because i was hearing some unusual tapping/hitting noise from the bottom of my car. Once he test drove it he told me that the car is way too low and that the struts are going in too deep which is causing it to hit the cyclinder or some crap i forgot what he said. Anybody have an idea what the hell hes talking about?
yeah...sounds like you either A) have no bumpstops on your car [Bad]
or B) you are consistently hitting the bumpstops [not as bad, but shocks are definately blown]

The Neuspeed version on the Koni Yellows is all I would use for those springs. I think www.shox.com has them.
DragII: looks like either way im gonna have to get some new shocks. do all aftermarket shocks come with bumpstops? thanks.
97CivicFerio: shiet mang... arent those kinda expensive? i just need some decent shocks for now until i get some real coilovers. ive heard of kyb or something. are those any good? thanks.

no, not all shocks come with bumpstops. you may have to buy them separately.
as for KYB's I have them, and they are ok.....the lower you go the worse they ride though.

I just went to a local import shop and they suggest that i get the Tokico non adjust Performance Shocks(Blue) and use them with my H&R Race Springs. Does anybody have any feedback on these shocks? From what he tells me they are pretty good. I would really appreciate it if somebody with these shocks could give me some feedback on them since im considering buying them like tomorrow. Thanks everyone for your help.
Tokico blues will blow very quickly with H&R Race springs, take my word for it. Tokico shocks are good for softer springs. I have Integra Pro-Kit, which are a little softer than Civic H&R Race, and they ride smooth as hell on Koni Yellows. I would get any less than Bilstein HD for Race springs.
Ditto above.
I got Tokico Blues with H&R Sports. I'm ok with it, but the $$$ could have been pool for some Koni. I have a review of Tokico Blues on my Civic website (under my profile).
Listen to others, I should have. Others told me to go Koni. But didn't cause I was trying to save a few. Again, I'm ok with it, but felt I wasted my $$$ a bit. Keep in mind, shocks are going to last for many miles. It's not something you swap out like shift *****, if you don't like it.

holy **** r u guys serious about these shocks? what a dick, he told me that they were great shocks and that it would be a good setup with my H&R Race Springs. man where would i be without honda-tech. so the koni yellows are pretty good huh? how much are they a piece? what other shocks should i consider buying? thanks.
I don't know what the spring rates on H&R Race for Civics are, but for Integras they are 583 lbs front/450 lbs rear. You need some pretty heavy-duty damping to handle that. Go with Koni Yellows. You can probably get them for around $500-$550 for the set.
You could always go with Advance Design...

Of course, those are $399 a piece.

Hmm ok... i really cant spend $500-550 on shocks. even though i really want to but i just cant. i have more important stuff to spend my money on such as school, so maybe that extra $250 is nothing to you guys but its alot to me. the guy at the shop offered me $280 for the tokico blue performance shocks which is a more reasonable price for a college student such as myself. i need some new shocks no matter what and im on a tight budget so what i need to know is, how long will they last with my H&R springs? i mean you guys tell me that they suck but they are alot better than the stock shocks though right? i used to drive an integra before and it was slammed to the ground with stock shocks for about 2 years and they were perfectly fine. lets just say that i drive carefully with my race springs and the tokico blues cuz i dont drive my car hard at all, how long do you guys expect before i blow the tokicos? if anyone reads all this, thanks for your time.
I dont think ill need the adjustable feature, so are there ones without it for cheaper? Hey DragII, which ones are you running on? You told me that you had KYB AGX. Are yours adjust or non adjust? If they are non adjust how much a piece?
I had the blues...they were OK...although I had H&R sports and not the race...I only paid $250 for both so I said **** it....now I have H&R coilovers, much happier...but they cost a lot more...when it comes to struts, you get what you pay for
KPxRyDa: Phuq the Bullsheeit! Go with the used ITR shock, spring and rear lower control arm setup for about $250-$280 like me. Your car will be lowered 1/4" from stock and won't be as low as it was with the H & R Race Springs but it'll ride a lot better and handle a lot better with the added benefit of it being more dependable.
With as low as the H&R race springs are you will just be wasting the money you spend on the Blues. Thinkof it this way. You spend the 250 bucks on blues, they will blow, and you suddenly are in the same position you are in now, wishing you had saved up for better shocks that could handle a drop that low. So now you end up spending 450 bucks on yellows, grand total of $700, when you could have spent 450 in the first place.
I understand your position, I'm in the same boat, I'm a junior in college spending all my hard earned money on books and bills. I suggest you put some stock springs back on for now, till you can save up and afford some yellows, or at least AGX's and then slap your stuff on. For the not much mmore than $700 which you might end up saving you could get some neuspeed coilovers, or perhaps find a deal on a used setup of better coilovers. Heck 700 bucks will get you a good Koni/ ground control setup.
Good luck

ive got the tokico blues on my car and they seem to be working fine..but yet again..spend a few extra $$$ and get the koni reds
I hate to tell you, but the Koni Red are not going to work well with Race springs, the KYB AGX void the warranty over 1.5" drop so I do not recommend using those either. That leaves Bilstein HD. They run about $430 at Shox.com. They will handle the race springs much better than Tokicos or KYB AGX.
just check d with http://www.modacar.com and the difference in price...tokico vs. koni isnt that much different..maybe $50.. think im going to drive down there today and maybe...just maybe get me a christmas present in advance
