Exhust systems???
ok, you know how when cars have that loud sound, when you accelorate and whatnot, well, i've been told you can achieve that just through modding ur exhust system. but my question now is, what part is it that really makes you car sound mean? is it the tip, or something else? if it is the tip, what kind of tips give it that really loud "umph" for lack of a better word? sorry, im new to car modding...dont even have my permit yet (but i drive my friends acura RSX on occasion, he wants me to race it one night...lol), but i may be buying my friend's '95 accord LX

a stock LX accord will not beat a RSX
nor do i think you should street race
IMO If you want to give you car better performance "umph" then people here would be more willing to give you suggestions based on your budget

well i wasnt planning on racing the LX against anything... and im not much into the racing scene....watching is fun....but racing.....*shivers* i dont wanna trash my beloved car...lol
a really "mean" sounding exhaust is a product of well thought out resonator and/or muffler placement. This is why it is good to buy a full catback system, they are tuned for (slight) performance increases, but mostly to sound nice. Judging from the way you are talking, the greddy SP2 would probably be a good choice for you.
The main thing you DONT want to do is hack off your muffler. it will be loud, but it wont sound well tuned as a nice catback would...it would sound more like you have a POS with a rusted out muffler, however if you had a turbo and did 3" straight out, that would be a different story entirely....

wow
tell a kid that does not even have his/her (this case her) DL to get a cop grabbig muffler
Do it the easy way just put on a glass pack with a tune tip
Heck I am running a Focus muffler on mine
All you have to do is look at the ID OD of the muffler and then change it to what you would like. Can use any universal tuned muffler OEM cost of $57 bucks and then if you dont like the sound get a tune tip to adjust it.
People think its this fancy setup $300-$800 painted chrome pipe that you are paying for a name not the material that makes a car. NO
Its the time that you put into it to make it the way that you want. Not how much money you can dump into it. If that was the case I would not have gotten a used fixer uper. I would have gone to one of the Drift racers and bought one of their cars that they run to race for about $250,000 or for that price had one built for me.
Its a personal pride in doing it yourself and making it the way that you want it to be. I have so many non Honda parts in mine its not even funny. And I am adding and making more.
That is what customizing is all about. Making it the way you want. Not the way that the Media or the brand names says it needs to look like.

well...take a piece of stainless and run it straight from the header back to the end of your car. no resonator or anything....it will give....some sort of sound.
just to warn you, these questions are often shot down. most people here (me included) are more about function then looks/sound.
if by "umph" you mean power, then i would say that your best bet would be to go with a nice muffler (magnaflow, etc...) and get a custom 2.25" catback system made. should run ya around $250 ~ $300 ish. if thats not what you want, i dunno...drill some holes in your exhaust
welcome

3. Gutted Cat aka. Flamer Thrower: The ghetto way of doing things. basically, it involves taking a screw driver and scraping out all the linings of the cat, which oxodize the incoming gases (these are carcenogenic BTW). Once again this will create less restriction in some scenarios, but can cost you low end torque. They do however give you the ability to shoot massives flames out ur muffler at times. $Free + you and your friends all get cancer

for all new people new to this thing.. i always suggest to go the right way about fixing up your car... if you do it the half assed way then you end up spending tons more on it later on... the cleanest way and stylish that never fades is the "JDM" look... as for the exhaust .. go street legal... greddy apex.. but the favorite of mine is the espelir exaust... angled canister with a true silencer.. take out the silence and you have a powerful jdm exhaust system.. its a jdm exhaust sys that now has C.A.R.B. approval... so it's "STREET LEGAL" ... friggen cops .. jus harass us.. even all cops are getting smog certified... they shut up tho wen you give them the sound papers along with the C.A.R.B. #'s... they think they know everything... ha... my brotherinlaw is a cop... not to talk down about them.. but hey ... i can say that i've talked my way out of many fix-it tickets cause the cop didn't know what he was talking about... know your stuff and they can't do a g damn thang!!!... aiitee... i said my piece... i'm out ... n e more question message me...
from PA huh, nice girls come from there, haha
anyways, im 17 and i really do care about sound and performance, but sound is very important to me, i went with my friends Greddy sp2 muffler and i went to my local muffler shop next to my high school and had them create custom piping and it sonds great and especially wen im on it, if you just want sound, i say take out the resonantor from your stock exhaust, itll get a little louder i think
