The maintenance required light comes on after a certain period of time (I forget how long), pretty much reminding the driver to replace the oil or do basic maitenance. There's a little button under the dash to reset it.
Can't answer your question though, although I do have something similar to that. My clutch pedal spring is squeeky, so every time I push down on it I get a little squeek.

'94 & up have hydraulic clutches. Check the pivots on the lever, but mine does this in the clutch slave cylinder. Every year or so, I have to open up the rubber boots around the clutch slave. There's a big square boot covering the throw-out lever, then a small accordion boot covering the piston shaft. Work some brake-caliper grease into the small one, see if you can work it into the cylinder bore. Then put some chassis grease on the ball/socket where the piston pushes against the throw-out lever. There's also a pivot ball for the throw-out lever, a little ways inside the housing. Maybe you can get some grease on that?
In order to grease the throw-out bearing itself you have to take off the transmission.
