How to launch?
Hi guys,
I just tested out my car (EG6- B16A) against my friends (EF9-B16A) ....i lost about 1 1/2 cars length at the end of the 1/4 mile(hit rev'ed cut at 2nd gear!
wasn;t concentrating!).....is this normal....both of us has basically the same mods....intake and exhaust...Is this normal?
Anyway, i lost mainly because of the launching....i took off using normal driving style....by that time the EF already pulled about 1 cars ahead....
So i was thinking if i actually tried launching my car...the gap could have been closer.....
I need advice on launching techniques!
my car is still stock with only intake and a N1 style exhaust.... PLease Help !!!

Higher revs.....either pop the clutch or release quicker.....practice at different revs and different styles with clutch removal.....since you are almost stock I would try 3000 RPM and a quick style release of the clutch.......
put it in first rev up to about 35-45k and keep it there then start to let out the clutch until you feel it just start to grab then when you launch dump the clutch BUT DO NOT FLOOR IT. keep your gas foot where it is until your car hooks up solid then let er rip.

Yea, only way to get a really good launch is to feather out the clutch a bit at a higher rpm. It's not the best for your clutch or tranny but will give you the best results.
Well this is not about launching but I just starter driving a stick shift car and i heard shifting without letting the gas go makes you faster. is this true????

no, and it screws your gas mileage!
If you're daily driving just ease in the clutch, let go of the gas, shift the gear, gently touch the gas and let go of the clutch...
Racing you want to let down the clutch, let your foot off the gas, change the gear, release clutch and put foot on gas at the same time (usually from first-second this will cause your wheels to bark [squeel] on some high-perf cars you can do it second to third as well)
Becareful though, trannys are not the most durable thing in the world!
And don't hold your clutch down to long, wears it out

i launch at 4.5-5k rpm....

What you need is to have good front suspension and a set of z rated tires. Launch around 4-5 k (use your e-brake if car rolls at line) and hold your gas pedal constant until your tires start to pick up, then floor it. Power shifting will get you ahead but its hard on your tranny. I do it all the time but thats why i need to rebuild my tranny.
I'm launching at 6.5k - 7k RPM. 1.9 60 foots too!

From: somewhere between the motor and tranny, putting power to the wheels...
mines almost stock, i launch at (**about**) 4200rpms, dump the clutch, little wheelspin but any more and i get wheel hop bad, i need to play with tire pressure a little more though.
Mista Bone, how much whp you running with this set up? Just curious because I have not decided what I want to do with my sohc.
with my car, I usually launch around 2.5-3000. works pretty good for me with my tires

7.2k launches with NOS on SOHC, 1.875, slicks barely spinning.

damn u guys can launch at 6.5krpms on street tires..*envious* I spin my tires if I just take off from 1500rpms to quick... oh wait that's torque
.. but yes. suspension is the key as well as a pair of grippy tires.. but wait.. a clutch will also help..a slipping clutch can easily take some time out of your run as well..
