leaking oil from somewhere...
i just spoke to my brother today...he's having problems with his prelude...here's what he said...
he said that the engine's losing oil from somewhere but he can't figure out from where...he checked the oil pan but it's higher than that...he checked the valve cover but it's lower than that...he checked the oil filter area but it's not there either...
he just had to put another half a quart today...and it's definitely not burning oil...it's a 1997 Honda Prelude Base (h22a4) with the Steptronic transmission (auto)...
i'm guessing you guys would have a good idea of where to begin diagnosing the problem...any help would be much appreciated...thanks.

There was a recall on the front balancer oil seal. This could be something to check. Sounds like it is big enough that it shouldn't be too hard to find. Clean off then engine, start it up and see where the oil firs appears. Good luck...

check the oil filter. The filter may have a bad seal.

If you don't see puddles or drips on the pavement where you park, then it is just normal h22 oil-eating. I usually add about a quart every 1500 miles.

i have heard of alot of the dohc vtec's burn oil not just the h22. but ive posted this same question and i think i got about 10 guys telling me that it was common. so i quit worrieing about it. now i just add a quart every 1500 and check it every now and then. but i think its fairly common.

the thing with this is, when i first got the car i took it to honda to do their 75 point inspection and they noted that there was an oil leak. so i'm pretty sure it's leaking somewhere. i'm positive it's not burning oil. i'll check the cam seal. how do i get to that?
