I have a 92 Civic Si Hatch and I want to get a stiffer, better handling suspension then what I have and want to see what some of you guys are using to give me some ideas!

 

i have stock shocks w/ sprint race springs and an r1 camber kit

 

g/c and agx.

I have same springs w/ stock shocks and ingalls camber kit! I want to know som e really good shocks that are going to handle very well!

I've ran/run a lot of different set-ups ranging from...

1. Stock struts and Suspension Techniques 1.8 lowering springs:

Costed me $120.00, rode pretty bouncy because of the old-*** stock struts, and the drop wasn't exactly even. This was back in 1998 or so before I had the money and the sus knowledge to get anything better.

2. Stock struts and APC coil-overs:

Costed me $80.00, rode like ****, but sat even. This was on my wife's car and still before I had a working knowledge of sus.

3. KYB AGX and Skunkworks coil-overs.

Costed me about $540.00, rode pretty good, the stiffness was adjustable, and the handling was superior to set-ups # 1 and 2. I'd recommend the KYB AGX struts to anyone looking for awesome adjustable struts if they don't have crazy-*** stiff spring rates.

4. Tein S-Tech lowering springs on KYB GR-2 non adjustables. The best riding out of all my set-ups, but the closest to stock handling IMO. Costed me about $340.00. they're on my daily driver Ef and I love them for what I wanted out of them - a mild drop with close to stock ride quality.

5. Skunkworks coil-overs on KYB GR-2 non adjustables.

Rode on this set-up for 3 years on my wife's car. Rode a bit bouncy, but handled nicely and it was cheap. $200.00 for the struts and I think the coil-overs were like $220.00 or so back in 2000. The set-up lasted me a long time, had an even drop, and rode pretty good. The handling was pretty good.

6. Koni Yellows with custom Eibach ERS coil-over springs with 425F 550R rates.

Rides VERY stiff, but not bouncy. most ***-happy handling set-up by far. Fun as **** at lower speeds and on auto-X courses, but at higher speeds it's a bit squirrelly. I need a front swaybar to help stabilize the car at higher speeds because it's a bit too *** happy. My favorite handling set-up, but very hard on the bones when hitting bumps.

7. Neuspeed/Bilstein full coil-overs with Neuspeed race springs.

Wow. The ride is superb and the handling is very nice. There is never any spring unloading like with normal coil-overs, as in when pulling up a hill the springs never fall around and "pop" back into place because the struts are so short that the springs are always preloaded and seated firmly. the car almost tucks 195/50/15s and it has full travel and rides better than any other set-up I've listed except for the stock-like Tein S-Tech/GR-2 combo, which is better in a stock like way. This is my favorite all around set-up and while they usually sell for $800.00 or so I paid WELL under that for brand new ones in the box. they're worth the full asking price IMO.

BTW:

All set-ups had rear camber at -1.0 or so with front camber about -1 to -1.5 degrees and none of the set-ups wore tires out unevenly EVER because toe was set to perfect factory settings of .08 rear and 0 up front.

The camber setting were achieved with Skunk2 upper a-arms on my B18C5 hatch with SPC upper 1.5 knuckles on my wife's B16A2 hatch. Skunk2 costs more, but they're easier to adjust if you ever change your ride height.

It's not an EG but this is what I'll be installing on my friend's EK:

1) KYB GR2's
2) H&R's (2.5/2.3 Drop version)
3) Si Front Sway
4) ST Rear Sway (Subframe Reinforcement unsure of at moment)
5) SP Racing Front Strut Bar

Might also install the following:
1) Megan Racing LCA's
2) Reno Racing Trunk/Rear Strut Brace
3) Frame Locks
4) Camber Kit (Unsure of brand)
5) Ebay Under Car H-Brace

This is for a daily driven, never autocross female driver ( I wonder if I'm goin overboard )

 

Ground Control sleeves/perches with 380/450 Eibach ERS springs. Works great for street/track/autox (non-competitive).

21mm OEM front swabar. Need to replace bushings, they're all shot.

22mm Comptech rear swaybar/tiebar. Love it.

15x6.5" Regamaster Evos w/ 205/50-15 Falken Azenis. Nothing better except for R-compounds.

 

i have the bilestein and neuspeed set up... rides very well

 

I use a illuminas and GC's 380 front and used 450's rear. that got me a 1.6 60 ft once and on average 1.7 60 fts. another rate I like is 300 lb rear also. I like ITR rear bar and stock dc front bar with ES bsuings.

 

Running GC and Koni Yellows: 325F and 350R and neuspeed front strut bar. Working on a swaybar hook-up. A little stiff for my taste on horrible Baltimore Streets, but great for weekend autoxing. Good trade-off. If you don't autox at all I'd go softer.

 

Do you plan on tracking alot? Or just street? Suspension should depend on how you use the car.

I'd favor Omnipower if you are mostly street with occassional track.

Not too bad with the stock bushings pretty harsh with the es bushings....Didn't think that the bushings would make that big of a difference in ride quality.

i have also used tein ss ... and i discovered that they are nothing but a heap of garbage.

 

I have a 93 Si hatchback. Koni yellows, with Ground-Control coilover kit (similar to slammed_93_hatch's) currently have 450lb F, 350lb R. Also GC upper mounts (bushings not bearings). Stock front sway bar, and a GSR 13mm rear bar. RIDES AWSOME!!! Stiff but comfertable, I would highly reccomend this set up. I am bias though

 

tanabe springs with kyb agx's and i love the....oh yea if you want a smooth ride with better handing just get springs... i kinda miss my stock struts.. but the kybs are hella fun....
