I just torque my valve cover alittle to much...one of the bolts snapped...I'm a dumbass I know but is this a easy fix or a bitch and a 1/2?...and how do I fix it?

 

i did that too...its a bitch and a half sorry
you have to drill it out and be careful cause the rocker arm is directly beneath it if its one in the back...and make sure you clean your head of any metal shavings before you but the valve cover back on

 

i would fix it other wise u might ruin ur motor

 

well actually i didn't think it was that hard. I did it to my valve cover and i just had to buy a new valve cover bolt and nut from honda, i think it was like $10 max. Then pull the valve cover off and pull out the broken bolt then put the new one in. Easy as that took me like 10 min.

 

and nut?...this is off my 95 civic Dx and its in the back...its just a bolt....is the valve cover threaded...its dark out so I can't check.....like couldn't I just replace the bolt...how long can the broken nut stay there?

 

well what i did was just put some jb weld type **** on the washer so that no oil spilled out and that would have prolly held till the car died. But no i broke off the back left one and all you have to do is remove the valve cover and fine the 4 bolts that have the thread to screw the nut onto that holds on the valve cover.

then get a 10mm socket and pull that bolt out, get a new one from Honda, they are the only people who sell them, then put the new bolt in, put on the valve cover and then the cap nut, and enjoy.

 

if yours bolts the same way mine does(bolt goes through cover into head) you will have to find a way to extract the broken piece from the hole w/o messing up the thread. i did this to my g/f's car, which was much easier to fix. since then, i've been using a torque wrench on almost everything i work on.

valve cover bolts/nuts are 84 in/lbs per bolt for d series and f series for 90-93 accords

 

what i did since im also a dumbass i mean uhh..neways since it wasnt crossthreaded and just over torqued i got sum needle nose pliers and grabbed the end of the broken piece n tiwsted it out by hand,went to classic honda n bought another bolt for $3..

 

yea, try that. if it works, make sure you torque to the right specs

 

You have to just rethread a new bolt and buy a new nut. my firend ran without one and it didnt ruin his motor but oil did leak a lil bit. so i would def sugest fixing it, might be a bitch somewwhat though.

 

see with mine i just twisted off the top part of the bolt, the part with the nut. so all i had to do was buy a new one from honda and pull the old out put the new on and put the valve cover back on. i guess i got lucky.
