Can H22 (JDM or USDM) pistons be swapped into an H23 Block ?
If yes, what would the compression ratio be for the USDM and the JDM pistons?
Which should my friend do?
1. JDM pistons with a ported and polished head? Would this make the H23 as powerful as a stock H23 (vtec), he should see about 20 WHP with this combo.
2. JDM pistons with a h22 head and computer. I know that this is a bit difficult to do, but the H22 head costs about the same a port and polish on his old H23 head.

..are of different lengths, hence the change in displacement due to added stroke on the H23 motor. However, the H23 and H22 blocks are the same, except maybe the oil squirters found on the H22 block that may be absent on the H23, so deck height and piston clearance should be the same. You would have to use h22 rods and pistons.

..use both the crank and rods from the h22 in the h23. This will destroke your h23, but it should work w/out incident b/c the opposite swap, h23 crank and rods into the h22 is possible and has been done.
So what would happen if I just used the tyep S pistons in the H23. Would it stick out above the block deck?
You said that the pin location is different, how does that prevent it from working.

HI yes you can swap the Type-S pistons in the H22 block with the h23 crank and rods.I used that in my H23 vtec 2 1/2 years ago. I ran 12.3 with those pistons in the block. Only problem is the pistons WILL stick out of the block slightly around 2mm. Because of the wrist pin height. The wrist pin height on both the type-s and the USDM pistons are the same so you can use it.
Oh and i almost forgot with the pistons slightly sticking up i had a final compresson of around 11.4:1.

this post is old, but i'd like to say that the H22 and H23 pistons are identical
the only reason the H23 has less compression is that the combustion chamber is larger

Yes the combustion chamber is bigger but the pistons are not identical. I know this cause the pistons in the h23 are slightly dished and are p14. The h22a piston is flat top and are p13. You can find this out at the dealer the part#'s are different.
