CRX with dohc
Did a CRX come with a DOHC in any year from the factory? Im new to Honda performance, but not new to performance in general at all. A friend of mine just bought a CRX and it has a DOHC but from looking around it seems people only talk about swapping in the b16a's. Did they come with this motor from the factory ever? thanks!
Do you think it has a b16a, or what is the easiest way to check. He's an older guy (late 30's) and he bought it as a daily driver. If it has a b16a, i'll be buying it from him
Whats the easiest way to tell the differences in the motors? Thanks for all your guys help

Check the block for the motor series number ie b16, b18, zc, d16. There is a plaque to the left of the exhaust manifold right next to the area where the block meets the transmission. On it, there should be a stamp saying what motor it is. HTH

Check the block stamp. It's located near where the tranny and block touch. Bottom left hand side.

The first gen jdm b16 has 160 hp as does the 2nd gen usdm b16. There was no first gen usdm b16 obviously. The second gen jdm b16 has 170 hp. The 3rd gen b16 in the 99-00 civic Si has 160 hp. HTH
So other than the 10 hp is there any true benefit to the newer OBD2 version? It seems to me that OBD2 would be mroe trouble than it's worth to deal with. I know it is on american cars
. Any input?

OBD1,2 has really no benefit in 88-91 cars except if you are going to swap in something like the gsr or type-r motor. It really is more trouble than it is worth to swap a second or third gen b16. The only differences are the number of sensors and sometimes a difference in the power output
if its a DOHC motor ull see the big thing called a vavle cover that says DOHC VTEC BAHAHHAHAHAHA no one even said to look at the vavle cover u guys trying to make him look real hard for teh block stamp for the engine code he dont even know wut a honda motor looks like the way it seems

Yea but you are right he could look at the valve cover. hahahahaha
I know what a honda motor looks like. I know this motor does not say DOHC VTEC on it, but like i said ive not seen a twin cam honda that isnt vtec. But its a twin cam CRX thats why im curious.
Could have a zc swap. They came with dual cams. Less power output than the b16.
zc=137 hp (Jap CRX SI)
b16=160 hp (Jap CRX SIR)
d16=109 (US crx SI)
d15=92 (US crx dx)
I think thats how it goes...
