Default Winter Tires for my 1994 Accord EX Coupe

Well I need to get some All-Season tires for my car. Right now I have some 17" rims with some racing tires on em. I was told it would probably be more economical in the long run if I get some 15" rims and all-season tires for em now so that in the future my tire purchases will be a great deal less then the 17 tire purchase.

Soo.. Where is a good place to get a set of 15's w/ All season tires and what would be the best brand for around $500 total for the set.

Thanks for any replys!

I will be buying them in November.

Thanks for the recommendation!

I think I am going to just go with 17" tires and skip going back to 15s, mainly because yearly the cost is not that much more and I really like the look of the 17's.

So my next question is that I could not find any 17 inch tires on tiretrack.com, but I was able to find quite a few at dicounttire.com, one of which was a continental brand all-season, are these any good?

Thanks in advance!

I found this on TireRack and they should be the size you need.

I had a set of Potenza RE950's on my Accord when I bought it and I liked them. They handled most conditions very well.

I've also heard good things about these.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/...A+ASX

EDIT:
After looking at the reviews and pricing of the three tires I listed I would have to say my first pick would be the Yokohama AVID H4S. Then the Kumho ECSTA ASX. And then the Bridgestone Potenza RE910 last because the ratings are a little lower than the other two and they cost more than the other two.

Also, make sure you take pictures of your rims before you have the tires replaced incase they screw up the rims. This way you have proof.

I was talking to this guy over by me that owns an EVO. He had his tires replaced at a Bell Tire and they scratched his rims up, the ones made by Enkie for the EVO. Anyway, they replaced all the rims and tires and he kept the original set as snow rims at their cost.

He also told me that this shop I have my alignments done at mounts tires and they order the tires from TireRack. He said they did a great job on his last tire change. I will be going to them for my tires from now on because I like how they treat you and how they work.

Gary those Yokohamas look good. Would the 205/40-17 be okay?

Thanks!

i don't know. They aren't a big difference in diameter so it won't throw off your speedometer but I would personally get the 45 series so I could have as much sidewall as possible. The reason I say that is because Michigan roads aren't the best and the 45 series will handle the pot holes and such better then the 40 series. You would be more likely to damage a tire (bulge in the sidewall) or a rim with the 40 series rather than with the 45 series.

Just make sure you get a warranty with the tires.

edit:
I see the 40 series are $8 cheaper than the 45 series... I would probably still stick with the 45 series just to be safe.

Wow tiretrak has some phenominal prices and the shipping is not that bad either!

Gary, thanks for the suggestion! I will try to follow your advice and remove the wheels and take em to discount tires when I order and receive the new ones.

Im sure you told me this before, but what is the correct torque setting for tightining the wheels back on?

Do you know off hand what they charge you to put tires on your rims?

Thanks!

TireRack is a great site.

Personally I won't be going to Discount Tire unless I really have to. I don't like the way they treat you or your car.

The torque setting for the lug nuts is 80ft/lb

Discount once told me they charge $30 a rim to put tires on when you don't buy from them. They also charge you a $8 charge for removing the current tires off the rims.

I don't know if you want too drive a little to have the tires installed but that alignment shop I mentioned earlier is about a half mile from my moms, I can call them and see what they would charge for those tires to be purchased and installed. They order from TireRack and usually get them next day.

I also believe Bell Tire orders from TireRack.

Where ever you do go make sure they use those rubber boots over the tools so they don't scratch up the rims. Or take pictures before and then have them scratch up the rims so you can get a new set on them. Just joking. Just make sure they put it on the job ticket and make sure the guys in the shop follow the job ticket. More than half the time they don't look at the notes and screw things up. I can't tell you how many times I've told Discount to put my car in the bay with no lift and use jacks but they still try and put it on a lift and then realize my car was too low (1.2" drop) and almost ripped my mud guards off twice.

Gary, As usual awesome post!

Yeah I would love that, I am not ready to get the tires just yet, but I am planning ahead for the beginning of November.

np. I'll give them a call today if I can. If not I'll try this weekend. That way you can call around for estimates from other places and go with the best one. I'll let you know what I come up with.

Edit:
If you want I can PM you there number if you want to call. Otherwise I can give them a call. Which ever, it don't matter.
