i dont know its what you want b16a are good and all but my gsr tranny feels pretty good maybe its not the best but its got a quaife lsd b16a tranny has shorter gears and is better but put 4.9 final drive in any tranny and youll be better off then a b16a

Are you talking about cable or hydro trannys?

Both trannys are good. The B16 tranny has lower gearing that provides better acceleration, but does rev higher at hiway speeds. The B18C is great on the hiway at more resonable rev's but isn't a brisk off the line.

Ya, I run the b18c hydro, its much nicer for a street car. But you are correct the b16 cable j1 was much shorter.

LOL .. if you do much driving on the interstate, i would not reccomend a B16 tranny, cuz if u like to ride at about 85 - 95- u will stay in vtec.

b16 and gsr are both great trannies, but like they said, you'll have to actively try to stay out of vtec on the highway with a b16. imo, b16 with gsr 5th

So I dont get it, are you guys "afraid of hitting vtec" on the highway because its loud or you are afraid of damage to your engine. I have a feeling that if it was bad for the car they wouldnt really make it like that. People need to be on the freeway with their cars, and if the tranny puts you in vtec then deal with it. I doubt its going to hurt the engine and if its too loud then your exhaust is too loud to begin with. But in my opinion I would get whichever one is newer and in better condition unless you race this car a lot and really want the acceleration. I would in that case go with the b16

or maybe because it will kill your gas mileage.

so how would a B16 cable tranny be like on a B18A motor?
what RPM would i be at if i were going 60-70 MPH?
what kind of mileage do you guys get?

i loved my s1 on the b18a...great for rippin thru gears! downside i think is on the highway when it seems like 5th is redlining
...it seemed like i was in high rpms on the highway, but i have no tach, so i am not 100% sure what they were at.

...gas milage is good, i filled my tank for like $18-19, but my engine is bone stock.

i have an s1 for sale...it needs to have reverse fixed in it tho if anyone is interested.
