The foam might flow slightly better, but at the expense of more dirt getting in through the filter... Which K&N do you have?

Not sure it was a drop in filter that I modded to mate wtih the stock intake tube.

Hmm, I did the same thing, but now K&N has released a drop-in replacement filter. It's just as big as the stock one, so it might flow a little better compared to the hacked stock elbow/K&N combo.

How come nobody on this board has one of these yet? I've been waiting for someone to post a review.

The new K&N drop in is part number E-2427.

I can't read JDM. So does that mean filtration runs best in this order: Apex, K&N, HKS?

The problem I have with the new K&N is that its like $70! Why is it so much, does it come with the elbow thingie too?

I just have a 3130 that was like $30.

If you have the right number ( ...new K&N drop in is part number E-2427), you can get it from Summit/Jegs, etc. HTH

ok that article makes no sense. How come they say HKS sucks cause its the same flow as the K+N and also the Apexi is only making 1 hp more than the HKS ?

It’s not so much the HP, as the amount of dirt it allows into your engine. Look at the piles of dirt that each allowed. HKS, didn’t fare so well.

you could probably say the comptech filter will allow just as much dirt pass through as the hks - both are foam.

riddle me this, can a k&n filter be used in the icebox?

You also have to think about the amount of suction that was being used on the filters. I wonder how accurate a representation of actual engine suction that is? Were they using the vacuum cleaner or that twin turbo Nissan engine to check the amount of filtration offered by the different filters?

From what I've seen of the Comptech foam filter (pictures only) it looks like it has more filtration material than the HKS which is a bit on the thin side IMHO...

this is off of the K+N website, I refuse to believe that comptech would use foam if it sucked so much ***

no I just think that they aren't morons, they wouldn't want to ruin their rep by using somethign that reduces power. In any case I'm runnign the K+N in my Icebox
