Default Guess what?...Another Stolen R in NYC !!! (not mine)

I only met the guy once, named Andrew. He lives in the Bronx and unfortunately he had the car street parked. He called me tonight, car is gone. He said he was able to street park it for about a year and a half, but the thieves finally caught up with him. He also said he had a hood lock ! and alarm(s).
This is why I am selling my car. I am trying to get rid of it, before someone gets rid of it !!

I feel bad for the loss. However, he is lucky his car lasted that long in NYC. My first R lasted between 1 and 4 hours (maybe even minutes) while street parked in NYC.

having an R in NYC or certain parts of NJ is just asking for it to get stolen. Especially without a garage.

The accidents, I believe, are mostly people who daily drive their Rs. If you think about it, most of us who had accidents are younger drivers in school or still living at home who have no reason to have another car.

The BX is not safe for an R. I must say my car lasted about a month to two on the street. It was much happier in Westchester though. Like Ice Cube says "there wasn't a jacker in sight"

I can't imagine street parking a ITR on the streets of Bronx?!?! I went to highschool there for 4 years and during my first week of school of the first year, my friends and I got chased after by 3 guys with glocks...I hated the Bronx. It's not even the Bronx come to think of it...it's ******* NY. My friend bought his first car, an used 97 Integra LS and parked it in front of his house...less than a week...his car was stolen. I'm glad I'm in Pittsburgh most of the time and when I do go back to NY I have a garage to park my car or I'll just fly or catch a ride. This whole ******* stealing other people's hard earned ride is such bullshit. If somehow when I die and end up in hell with these bastards...I'm going to beat the **** out of them.

Worst insurance theft losses are for Mercedes model; two of three with worst theft losses are Acura models.....

The two-door Acura Integra has the second worst result, with losses also 10 times higher than the average among 1997-99 passenger vehicles. These high overall losses are produced by different factors, Hazelbaker explains. The Mercedes has extremely high average loss payments per claim, while the Acura's claim frequency is very high. The four-door Integra has the third highest overall theft loss result. Now Honda, which manufactures Acura's, has equipped all Integra's for the 2000 model year with passive immobilizing antitheft devices.

During the 1980-99 model years, theft claim frequencies have declined significantly, but this trend has been mostly offset by increasing theft losses per claim. In 1999, the last year for which information is available, the average theft loss payment per claim also declined.

The sad thing is that except for certain rough areas of the South Bronx, the Bronx is a nice place to live. I grew up in the Bronx and like it. I have a huge back yard that had two large apple trees, a pear tree, vegetable and flower garderns, etc. etc. The median price of homes in my area is $200-250K ! In Riverdale, homes are $1M-$5M !!
But, unfortunately, the nice areas are easily accesible by "bad" people. So, I actually, take offense when people bad mouth the Bronx. The Bronx is a nice place (Bronx Zoo, Botanical Gardens, Van Cortdland Park, and nice neighborhoods). I have lived in New Jersey, Maryland, and Massachusetts. I pick the Bronx over other neighborhoods because of its racial diversity, accesiblity to the Arts and Museums, accesiblity to transportation, overall "spice" of life. But, yes, there are bad areas and bad people. But the WHOLE Bronx is not bad.

VEHICLES AT RISK FOR THEFT IN PORT AND BORDER COMMUNITIES

NEW FILM "GONE IN 60 SECONDS" RAISES AWARENESS OF AUTO THEFT PROBLEM

PALOS HILLS, IL - Nearly 40 percent of all vehicle thefts occur in or near ports and border communities - with close to 19 percent stolen in the greater Los Angeles area, according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB).
The NICB analysis reported that close to 450,000 cars and trucks were stolen countrywide in metropolitan areas with ports or close to international borders in 1998.
Each year more than 200,000 vehicles are exported illegally from the United States. Many of these were stolen in port and border communities, according to NICB.
"More and more vehicles are being targeted for export by thieves who sneak them out through ports and across borders," said Robert Bryant, president and chief executive officer of NICB, the insurance industry's theft and fraud fighting organization.
"People who live in these areas should take special care to protect their cars and trucks from thieves." The Los Angeles area was by far the prime target with more than 65,000 thefts. The top ten areas with port facilities or near international borders that recorded the greatest number of vehicle thefts were:

Los Angeles (65,243 vehicles stolen)
New York (46,709)
Philadelphia (30,355)
Phoenix (29,868)
Houston (28,263)
Miami (20,977)
Riverside/San Bernardino (19,821)
San Diego (18,685)
Seattle (18,304)
Oakland (17,293) (Metropolitan Areas)
"Law enforcement agencies have helped bring auto theft down about 5 percent nationally," said Bryant. "They've done a terrific job." But the first line of defense against vehicle theft is the owner, he said. NICB recommends a layered approach to protecting vehicles. There are four layers of protection to consider: common sense - removing the keys and locking the doors; visible and audible devices - steering wheel locks or alarms; immobilizing devices - smart keys or kill switches; and tracking devices. "The number of layers a vehicle needs depends on the vehicle and the geographic location," said Bryant. "Budget and personal preference should also determine which anti theft device to choose." The National Insurance Crime Bureau is a nonprofit organization supported by approximately 1,000 insurance and self-insured companies dedicated to fighting insurance-related crime. Footnote: Figures are based on MSAs as reported to the FBI Uniform Crime Report

Hey Dave,

sounds like a candidate for R-Speed.

Even though we haven't had any good organized meets lately. Maybe we should plan something soon? I'll be on Pilot Alpins soon so we could meet anytime.

We should plan another meet - hopefully my computer will last long enough this time so I know when the next meet is!!

Whats up Dave haven't seen you in a while, or any R-Speed(ers), for that matter! I made a new site at Tripod - only for my hard drive to crash (again) and now it's shut down again - for some other reason - so I have to start ALL OVER AGAIN!! P.S. is anyone still on http://www.integra-type-r.com? I just made a comeback there today.
