Default Cheap 46mm, 50mm wastegate EXPERIENCES

IF YOU AREN'T USING ONE, DON'T HAVE ONE IN YOUR HAND OR OTHERWISE HAVE FIRSTHAND EXPERIENCE, DON'T ******* POST IN THIS THREAD.

On my usual ebay surfing, two items caught my eye. It appears that our buddies at SSAC/Stone Mountain Racing bought some old tooling, or something. The OBX LSDs seem like they're going over well enough, and I've started to hear that the 35mm WGs like http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA...&rd=1 are working fine.

I found:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...33742 which appears to be a ripoff of the Tial 46mm

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA...&rd=1 which appears to be a ripoff of the HKS 50mm

Has anyone seen/used/tried either of these larger wastegates? They *look* just like the original, but do they work?

Again, I'm only interested in people with FIRSTHAND EXPERIENCE.

I just noticed that they've done some evil trickery...

Geniune Tial 46mm (notice shape/type of the "head" on it): http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA...=WD1V

Cheapie: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA...=WDVW has same "head" as http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISA...&rd=1 35mm WG but presumable different body.

Hmm....

One, you need to search, and two, why cheap out on such a vital part? If that thing ***** out your engine is toast.

1. https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=595910 consensus on thread is that SSAC 35mm gates are a sound buy, backed up by the EXPERIENCES OF SEVERAL PEOPLE.
2. Let me worry about what to be a cheap bastard on ok? If I wanted your opinion, I would have asked for it. I asked for experiences with these products and you have none so STFU.

From what ive read they bought Tial's build plans and now they reproduce them under their companies name. The design should be very similar, the only potential problem would be the actual construction of the product.

I dont know what you are thinking up, but dual 35/38mm gates work awesome with a correctly designed manifold, small turbine, big ole compressor.

I really doubt you are going to find anyone on this paticular forum running an "ebay" wastegate at 46mm. If they run a 46mm gate, they also probably have a love-fab/full-race manifold, a gigantic turbo and another $10,000 sunk into the rest of their parts.

46mm vs 35mm. I'm basically trying to decide whether to stock with my original plan (dual 35mm gates) or go with a single 46mm / 50mm.

It looks like the 46mm is going to be the gate-of-choice of the two bigger gates because being able to open at a low boost pressure is key for me in this plan. The lowest spring I was able to dredge up for the HKS 50mm was a 8psi, which would be more than ideal...

3.3psi springs The motor these are going on is going to be a boostcontroller queen. Let's just say my electronics/programming expertise has been sent in this direction for a minute, and leave it at that...

Very true, but it's always worth asking. Lotta ppl on this damn board...

Maybe I can get a somewhat qualified MechE to compare the knock-off 46mm to a true-blue 46mm and see what can be said?

You're an *******. I was trying to help you out, and I was being nice about it.

I haven't experianced AIDS, or being shot, or being hit by a car, but I can sure as hell tell you they would all suck. Just because I dont have first hand experiance doesn't mean I can't tell you about it.

Tegunderpressure, why dont you just remove yourself from the situation? You came into this thread with a bullshit post.

He is asking for experiance on a product so he can make a good choice. I see no wrong in that. You tell him just to buy a Tial WG. The guy wants to look into things and do some research and find out some more information. Get over it. If you dont like it, click away and move on.

There has been a little conversation of the 35mm SSAC WG's and pretty solid results have come about and we know that SSAC bought Tial's old designs, so looking into these WGs is a logical step into being cost efficient. Just because you prefer to just follow the norm and buy a tial WG doesnt mean everyone has to do the same.

****, i run a WG off a 20 year old turbo. I modified the arm and did all sorts of bullshit to it. Would you be suprised if i told you it fluctuated less than 1psi according to the Dynapack? This on a 2.5" straight back exhaust on a straight T3.

So please, there is a lot of bullshit, hes tempting to sort through it. So again, you dont enjoy the topic of this thread, leave it be and it will either wither away or it will get response. Neither directly effect you.

Nothing like a lecture from a 17 year old newbie.

Sorry to jack your thread, Dave. I'll see if any of the RX-7 guys have used these gates.

as far as the wastegate... its a piece of crap... iv used them and they suck, the craftsmanship, the materials, and they break... if u wanna be a cheap *** and buy it... go ahead... imo... spend the right money the first time or spend twice that trying to fix it later
