New to Forum and a question
Hello all. My wife and I are new owners of an '04 LX 4cyl. So far, we are pretty happy and pretty amazed at the difference between her old 02 Saturn SC2 and her new Accord. The two cars are like night and day.
Anyway, as I said, the car is brand new, but we noticed some "thumping" as the brakes are applied. I assume it is something to do with the rear drum brakes because I don't feel any pulsating in the steering wheel. The car goes in on Thursday, but I was wondering if anyone else had a suggestion. The car runs smooth, but the vibration comes when applying the brakes. The feeling is very noticable on highway offramps or when braking from a high speed.
Just thought I'd introduce myself and tell you that I look forward to using the site for reference.

the 7th gen accords (03+) are known for having problems with brake pad wear...but if you know its coming from the rear, and you have rear drums, ovbiously its not pads....but it could be the shoes......not to ask a dumb ?, but are you sure its not just the ABS???
Thanks for the prompt replies.. I have heard (and felt) when ABS has been activated before, and it does not remind me of that at all. Maybe "thumping" is not the right word... Maybe more of an uneven rubbing sound is more like it. What I can think of would be similar to pulsating brakes... Think of you riding your 10-speed, and your rear wheel is bent. When you go to apply the brake, you feel that the brake grabs at a certain point on the rim more than the rest, sometimes even causing a noise. Sorry if that is a lame exmaple, but that is what I am thinking of. It is almost like the rear brake drum is not perfectly round or there is a defect in it causing the brake shoes to grab on one certain part of the rim more than the rest, like it is mismachined or something.
I went and drove it again tonight and pressed the brake a little harder than I normally would. I was on the highway at about 60 or so and then hit the brakes pretty hard on the off ramp. When I hit the brakes hard, the noise and feeling was quite evident and the slower I got, the more "upset" the entire car got. I mean, the car kinda shook as I got slower. Again, I was kind of being hard on the brakes to see what it would do, and it certainly did not comfort me at all. Something is definitely wrong. I'll let you know what I find out. Hopefully it is something simple, but we'll see.
