Default block heater

I installed yesterday a block heater on my 97 civic hatch, I plugged it in all night and the temp gauge didn't move a thing when I started it this morning. The gauge didn't seem to rise up that much faster than before. Is my block heater working and were is situated the temp gauge.

Unless he has a twin-turbo 12cylinder 16speed diesel truck and its 32degrees..
It actually works on highly modified rotarys..because when its cold outside they arent easy to start..Takes about 20-30 cranks to turnover..It's a bitch,,
But I doubt he has a bridgeport 13b turbo with a haltech..

ever try starting a car when its close to -40c ? block heaters ARE effective. they heat the oil so the motor spins easier on cold starts.
