if there is any play between the hub and the spindle, then the bearing is bad. As this is a sealed bearing they last about 8 yrs. mine I see was replaced before. And yea you need a really good press to get the bearing out. The hub to spindle you can remove on your own unless it is heat locked/cooked in.

Best of luck

I am not sure about this but would I still need to press out the old bearings if I buy new bearings and rotors at same time?

I know I need to study the repair manual. I have 182 k miles on my rotors and bearings. I thought I just might as well replace rotors and bearings when I replace drive axle very soon (cracked boots). I am not sure if I still need to press out something??

if you have rear discs, you dont need a press to replace the rear bearings. its just, pull out wheel, then pads, then rotor, then unscrew the old bearing, then pop on the new one. 15 min job, the fronts i assume are alot harder.

oh yeah, as for telling if its good or bad, usually, the bad bearings dont have any oil in the casing, and you can see the ball bearings, "that was what mine was like"

if things are that rough then you are going to end up like myself. Rebuilding the front compon.

So far:

Upper control arms
lower ball joints
Energy Suspension Hyper flex kit
Inner and outer tie rods
Struts
Coil springs
wheel bearings
drive axels

And while you are down there look at the harmoic balancer, if you see oil drip then you are looking at this:

Lower end kit
(timing belt, balancer shaft belt, seals, gaskets)
Valve cover gasket

So far about $800 good thing I got the car for $100. Would have sucked if I paid retail for this and had to do all that.

Knocking out some color changes and some mods while I have it up in the air.

Front bearings are sealed. You can not see them. But I do have one of my old bad ones out and I can take a pic of it. I also have the hub out, well a spare one as I did not know what all I was going to have to replace, with the spindal out.

This will help understand. I will take pics later tonight and then post.

sorry to bring this back but how do you know if your weel bearing has gone bad?

My bro has an accord (98 ex) and has had a lot of road/tire noise coming from his back driver side. He took it in and they said it was his wheel bearing and was going to cost him around 200 for the part and 150 for labor.

I just wanted to know if this is really his problem.

thanks
