Default Is this a good deal?

I've been shopping hard for a 90 or 91 CRX Si that is in stock form for STS-2 autocross... meaning no swaps allowed.

I have found a person with a 91 CRX Si, one female non-smoking owner, all stock everything, stock Rio-Red paint with no rust, 130K miles with maintenance records.

They are going to drive it from Houston tomorrow for me to look at and buy if I want it, but they are asking 3900 for it. That is pretty steep, but I have not found anything close to being in as good a shape as this within 1000 miles of where I live.

I definitely have the money since my recent insurance gave me 2800 in equity on a totalled 02 Si, so technically this would only be 1100 out of my pocket... but still, I wont know if its perfect until I've already bought it and drove it for a while.

Also, red is not my first choice (I want black or silver), but having a good motor/tranny is more important for autocrossing.

So, I'm telling this guy tonight if he should drive up here or not. Any opinions?

That better be one badass car for 3900. It just might be though. Talk them down to ~3500.

check it out there will always be something the owners are not telling you. tell them what you want to pay for it... even print out http://www.kbb.com book values and say look your asking $$$ and its worth $$$$ how can you justify the increase in the price? most people will cave and if they don't at least you got to see a nice CRX. Don't be afraid to say well thanks anyways and if you change your mind you have my number.

if you plan on racing this car and its in that good of condition why would you want to rip it apart why not try to find a beat up crx muh cheaper since your going to be racing the car and replacing nearly everything who cares what it looks like. its going to get messed up at some point from whipping it around right?

Well, I have considered the whole racing thing. The specific autocross class Im in requires full stock motor, full stock interior and trim. I am allowed to add any suspension mods and I/H/E and chip... thats pretty much it.

Im mainly drawn to this one because its D16A6 motor/tranny are probalby in excellent shape compared to others out there... and while I could save a bunch on another, I might have to spend the difference in labor to get it running strong.

Yeah, $3900 is a lot, considering that the kbb value is coming up at around $2700 - with information provided - here in San Antonio, Texas. I'm willing to bet that the reason for the higher asking price is sentimentality. For $3900, she better have had a lot of major work done on it. But even still, if you are going to be racing one around, you might want to go with a cheaper one. Me, myself, I'd really hate to see this car get taken down with racing. If I knew you were going to do that to a car I was selling, I wouldn't sell it to you. I would say, "Tough stuff." But, that's me.
