Default *UPDATE* mis shift mayhem

yesterday i was driven on the high way and went to sift to 4th accidentally put it in second and began to let go of the clutch when i saw it climb to about 9000 i slammed back on the clutch and put it in 4th.... now my car has a pronounced tick like the valves are severely out of adjustment. I didnt get a chance to take a look at it yet but there is now power loss change or change in driving... just wondering if there is any chance that there was no damage to the motor? or for any other input.

Dohh, it happens man. Hopefully you did not bend any valves, but you might have. I would do a compression, and leakdown test. That will be the only way to tell without taking the head off.

Also check the valve clearance (valve adjustment)

When I misshifted last year, I did the same thing and bent 2 valves. The car ticked loudly and idled like an old Chevy V8.

your ticking may be becasue you may have broken a valve spring. You also may have bent valves in the process. I would stop driving it and check it out asap. Also is it more of a knock or a tick becasue if it is knocking you may have spun a bearing. Drain your oil and look for bearing material also.

its fine. do a valve adjustment, maybe a compression test. if the CR test turns out fine you're ok.

what motor are you using? gsr or ls? my friend revved his LS up to 9,000 for 1-2 minutes straight on a fresh start after not being turned over for over a year, works perfectly fine..

sounds like a slight bent valve.. or maybe a lose rocker arm.. nothing major.. but you should get it checked out before things could get worst.

bone stock LS motor from '94, has been sitting in his garage for over a year. i drive on it everyday though as a temporary motor till mine is finished and haven't had a problem yet.

ok i know this is gonna sound really stupid but this is what happened.
Upon removing my valve cover i saw that the valves were severely out of alignment and most of the nuts on the rocker arms had loosened. And one of them had actually vibrated completely off. i couldnt find it in my head so i checked and it was in my oil pan stuck to the magnets. so i took the nut off my friends head in his yard and adjusted all the valves the best i could while hot and no other problems.
Odd? maybe
Lucky? definentaly
