Default Question regarding 5th gen Prelude and popularity

Currently, I own a 1998 Integra GS-R. It seems the resale value and desire to own this vehicle is very high. Hence, it's not only easy to get a fair asking price, but also to find a new owner for the vehicle.

I was wondering if you Prelude guys can tell me if the 5th gen. Prelude (even more specifically the SH model) has the same value and popularity among buyers and sellers? Are they easy to resell?

Thanks guys.

I had a difficult time trying to sell my '01 SH at book value. Grant it, it has custom paint, but it still had lower miles than the regular 15K a year. I had it on the market for 7 months, and after receiving only one phone call to part out the JDM fog lights, I decided to keep it.

I don't know if my case is extraordinary or not, but that's how it went for me.

Interesting. As far as I can tell from popular reviews and comparisons, the Prelude is the superior of the two (sans the ITR). Yet the popularity of all model Integra's are greater. I suppose the Integra is more of a "kids car" (no offense, wait, I own one!) vs. the contemporary 5th gen. Prelude.

Well book value for an 01 prelude is alot.. considering its the last model made and the reason Preludes didnt sell well was because of their high price.. a modestly priced prelude.. with good to decent miles should sell quick.. i was recently about to aquire a 99 lude with 75k on it.. type s, loaded, for they listed $8300 but was hoping to talk down to around 7800-7900... thats probably a little less then the value.. but the car sold so quick i didnt have a chance.. i called back the next day to talk about pricing and when would be a good time to get it and they told me it was already sold... anyone buying a 5th gen lude doesnt want horrible miles because theres a good chance they want teh stock engine.. integras alot of times people dotn mind cause there is a good chance they are gonna swap.. thats why high mileage integras sell even at moderatley high prices... anyways if you ask me.. integras feel cheap inside..

integra's do feel cheap inside, but they feel light aswell. and compared to a 5th gen. prelude, they are. integra's are also loud on the highway. i'm guessing a 5th gen. prelude is far more refined for daily duty (which is why i've posted this thread).

how's the top end of the SH compared to a GS-R? i loathe my low-mid range pull, but i'm quite pleased with the top end of my current four banger.

80 on the freeway in a 5th gen prelude will land you about 4K rpms. VTEC engages about 5200, so downshift a gear or two and your screamin.

Its not fair to compare a teg with a prelude. Prelude has an overall cockpit feel. The steering wheel has less play, just overall better handling. Yea tegs are lighter but everyone and their grandma has a teg. I dont think there is a really good market for resale with these cars. Ive got a 5th gen with a jun head that ive babied and i cant sell it. No offers no nothin. less thank 1K miles on the new head and dyno tuned with hondata. Alot of kids lookin, but no one with money.

Thats what youll find with the honda market place. Lots of kids want your car, but they are all talk. I highly suggest you get into a lude and test drive it. If you were local id take you for a ride in my beast.

cruising at 80mph on the highway will also land you at 4,000RPMs in an integra GS-R. but somehow i'm sure the prelude is less buzzy at the same RPMs.

that's what i'm after though, LESS steering wheel play and closer to reality handling. my friend had a 97 or 98 Prelude, but for the life of me can't remember if it was quiet on the highway and still had enough pull to seperate from an Integra. i do remember carving three point truns everywhere i turned because the turning radius was that of a bus.

i def. want to stick with a sports car/coupe, but i want to be able hold a conversation with my realtor while i'm driving with my hands free. my integra is so loud (even stock), that i cringe at answering a telephone call while i'm in the car.

also, resale is a concern. everyone and their grandma might have a teg, but they're still in demand, and people want to buy them. i still see many of the same preludes i looked at weeks ago for sale on Autotrader.com.

BTW, 98TypeSH, why are you selling yours and what are you moving onto?

I am trying to sell my car because some kids were driving fast out here in southern cali, who crashed and died. Now every cop in SoCal hates imports. If you got an exhaust you will be pulled over and your hood willl be popped. My car isnt exactly legal by any means.

Preludes are very quiet with the windows up just chillin on the freeway. I had to swap my stock exhaust back on awhile ago, and it made me so angry because i couldent hear my motor. Im used to the Apexi N1. Preludes are VERY hard to sell. But as you had stated, kids love integras, hence why they sell so well. They are also more drag friendly being less weight. Yes the turning radius on a lude sucks huge ***, ill agree with you there.

I had a few run-ins with some GS-R's when my car was stock. They had exhaust and some other ****. Needless to say i layed waste to them. Maybe they cant drive, who knows.

I have been spending TONS of time under the hood of some old (68ish) cars. I enjoy working on them more than i do my honda. Less **** in the engine bay, MUCH more simple, more power etc... I can pull the head/heads on an old Inline 6/V8 in under 10 mins.

On your FS thread, you said you wanted a rsx for "fuel economy reasons"

If you want fuel economy I suggest another car besides the h22 prelude

1998 Acura Integra GS-R
Fuel Type: Premium
MPG (city): 25
MPG (hwy): 31
MPG (comb): 27
Annual Fuel Cost*: $1082

1998 Honda Prelude
Fuel Type: Premium
MPG (city): 23

Annual Fuel Cost*: $1220

I'm not seeing a huge difference. Roughly $140 bucks a year.

Heh, I wish my Prelude saw 23 mpg. I figure mine to be around 17-20 mpg City.

I think the 17-20 mpg goes for most preludes. The EPA ratings always tend to be higher than the actual fuel efficiency.

still doesn't make sense. it's just a 2.2L 4 banger. i manage 300-360 miles out of 12 gallons of gas in my B18C1.

hmmmpff.

Ive had quite a few offers on my '99 SH around Atlanta. Its not that easy to find a decent one, so if yours has fairly low miles & in good condition... you would have no prob at all getting rid of it around here. Honestly, i cant remember what kind of gas mileage i get.... havent checked in a while. I dont think the EPA ratings are off by that much.....maybe they should rate the car with driver according to the weight of their right foot. If you do end up getting a prelude, put yourself a lightweight flywheel on. I installed an ACT prolite and it did wonders for the driveability IMO. I can creep in 1st as low as 700 rpm.... awsome for traffic.

I had a 99 SSBP GSR that I sold exactly one year ago, for my 01 Prelude. I sold my GSR in one week, although I didn't get exactly what I wanted for it, but I got a good deal on the Prelude and wanted to hurry and pick it up w/o owning two cars at once.

Anyhow, my GSR, I would get well over 300 miles a tank, and I had a tendency to partake in "spirited" drives. My Prelude, (5 speed), nets me about 225-275 miles... and that is on a larger tank (16 gallons I believe). When I fill up, I fill up with about 12.5-13 gallons, so in otherwords, 13 gallons nets me abuot 250 miles. About 18 miles per gallon. And that is if I drive conservatively with the occasional redline.

How do you feel they compare otherwise? Missing the GS-R at all?
