Default 1994 Honda Accord idle problems

Hi-

I'm trying to figure out what is going on with my 94 Honda Accord 4-door and have yet to get an explanation. When the car is in idle, it will continuously jump from 1000RPM to 2000RPM, but seems to be completely fine when I am in gear and the car is moving. Also, the check engine light came on as I was driving the other night and I haven't touched the car since.

Anyone have any ideas? Or should I just suck it up and take the car to a Honda dealership for repair?

Thanks-
Brian

Sounds like it could be EGR or IAC valve related. Do a search for those.

Check to see what error code you get from the check engine light. That helps a lot. You probably don't have OBDII since it is older than 96 so I am not sure how you would go about doing that but if you haven't already, invest the $10 for a Haynes manual. They have all the answers and it will be a heck of a lot cheaper than letting the dealership stick it to you.

I'm hardly a car techie, well not even close. Would it be relatively easy for me (being a novice) to replace the IAC valve?
