Well it took me and a friend about 5 hrs to change my clutch and flywheel, using jackstands and hand tools only. So I would guess to just take the transmission off and put it back on, 4 hours tops. This was the first time either of us had pulled a transmission from an engine still in the car.
Someone who has done it before should do a tranny swap in about 1hour with good power tools and by themselfs (basic tools, add some time to it). Changing clutch and flywheel add another hour to be safe. At the end just take your time, I would suggest you get a repair manual for your car, it should have the steps; you really shouldnt need it but it might remind you to do the little things. Just take your time.
Good luck.
Good luck.

If your non-experienced which it sounds like you are....(and thats non-offensive) then i allow at least a day as you will be more or less teaching yourself the process, which IMO is the best way to learn. If you can do it once...you shouldn't evaR have a problem again
i dont know how you guys do it in just a couple of hours. ive replaced over 15 (clutches???) and it still takes me a whole day. I ALWAYS run into problems with some bolt not wanting to come off or snaping or the axles not wanting to come out of the hub, etc, etc, it must be the michigan winters and all the rust but it seems to take me forever.

well their right, if anything give yourself a entire day because some parts give up a fight when its time to come out (shiftlinkage pin can get annoying to punch out if you dont have the right thing to punch it, and axle). But at the end of the day its a bolt off, bolt on job and you have a cable tranny so you dont have to bleed anything. Get started early morning that way shops are still open if you need something that needs to be replaced.
To each his own, some of us may take 1to2 hours to do it and others 4+hours, once you get to know them it gets easy; you get situations where parts wont come off and others where its almost too easy.
Best thing is Get a manual for about $15, and you will need it again.

i have an orignal manual from acura on the car, with all the bolt sizes and tq. specs. I have helped replace a D series tranny in a CRX before and it took well over an hour, cause bolts didnt want to line up. Thank you for all the help, i will let all you know how it turns out.

would you recommend that I attempt the clutch/flywheel install with basic tools (jack, jack stands, hand tools)
I have a neighbor that works for honda but haven't had the chance to ask him what labor would cost.

how do you guys drop the tranny? its light enough so ~2 people can carry it, especially on a weird position (kinda like bench pressing, right?)? Also on jack stands.. i cant see there being enough clearance to pull the tranny out?
On jackstands, you can get a car PLENTY high to drop a transmission.
I've always just pulled out the whole engine (changing clutches/flywheels), cleaned it all out, and put it all back in.
Its WAAAAAAAAAY easier, especially if you're by yourself, you can get **** all cleaned out, and i can keep the knuckles on my bigass hands from smacking into EVERYTHING.
