Default I think my spring is damaged :(

They are resurfacing a road in the city I live in but they're keeping the road open while they're doing it. This means at one of the intersections there is a good 2"-2.5" almost curb-like transition from one piece of tarmac to the other. The bump is not marked with any warning signs, nor have they made any attempt to make it more drivable (no metal plate or temporary tarmac ramp) and the speed limit on this street is 45mph.

I was traveling at about 30-35 since I was expecting some bumps around this area they're working on and hit this sucker at night. Caught me totally off gaurd as I had not driven on that piece before. Made the whole car shake. Now my left rear wheel seems almost an inch further up into the wheel well than my right rear is and I hear a creaking/squeeking coming from that corner. I'm using Skunk2 adjustable springs which are pretty stiff and I'm thinking that such a shock may have warped or cracked the spring but I don't have a jack to jack the car up and look.

Anyone have any thoughts as to what could have happened? If I took a picture of this bump (with a ruler to measure it) do you think I could get any money out of the city for having such a hazard totally unmarked if my spring is indeed damaged? When I drive over it now I slow down to about 5-10mph. It's worse than some speed bumps

ya i dont know much about springs and stuff but id say do the pic thing and contact the company that is doing it and talk to who ever you need to and if they blow you off on the phone go there and handle it in person, something like that needs to be marked and atlest one sign put up atlest 150 feet from it, who knows man maybe there supervisor or project manager told them to mark it and they didnt, if thats the case they should fix it , hell either way its worth a shot.. and make sure you told them that you werent even doing the speed limit that you were 10 - 15mph slower then the posted speed limit...

thats just my 2 cents on it....

I'd def. go after the city. I'd get an estimate for any damage from 2-3 shops and go from there. If you can, I'd keep any indication that you're using an aftermarket suspension system off of the estimate. I'd probably put the car on a lift and take a close look underneath and around the shock itself. See is there's any cracks, leaks etc. Pictures are always key (don't use a digital camera, if you have to buy a Polaroid). And don't wait too long to have it looked at by a shop. Going after a city for something like that can be a lenghty drawn out situation, so expect that.
