what size/kinds of filler rod/tungsten for what metals
I've seen some scattered info here and there but i think it'd be a good idea to make a sticky for TIG and MIG where we can tell what size/kind of tungsten and filler rod to use with various materials for TIG welding. As well as what size wire and gas combinations work best for various materials for MIG welding

304SS use 308 Filler, I prefer .045 size for that thin gauge
321SS use 347 filler, same size
Mild Steel use ER70S-2 or -6, same size
For the Schedules, if it is 304 use 308, and if its 316 use 316 filler, I still prefer to use thin wire like .045, but 1/16 would be perfect for sched 10 and 40
6061 Alum use 4043 filler, i usually match the filler to the tungsten size with alum, it melts easily!
For all the steels I use 2% Thor RED Tungsten
For ALUM I use WHITE zirconiated Tungsten
ARGON for all
Im not a professional welder, but these are what I prefer.

If you have an extra $3.99, all welding stores (AGA, Linde, etc) sell a sliding pocket reference that covers all of these things.
