92-93 EL Guages and difference from 94-96
Has anyone done this in their 92-93 preludes? Does anyone have a write up for this? I was also wondering what were the differences between those years besids the gauges and center consoul. I searched and i didnt find a write-up, only that it could be done.
Thanks
Thanks
I did it some time ago - it took a lot of work... especially on the wiring diagrams. You would need also some plugs: the plugs that are connected to EL gauges are NOT all the same as non-EL ones.
Generally it can be done, but I suggest you to find a 94-96 EL dash harness and to swap it with EL gauges. Here you have pics with EL installed:

The EL guages are the ones that chrysler kid posted. The other ones are like normal guages. I think it looks bad because the rest of the dash is lighted.

Why are yours in kph? Was your original mph? maybe thats why it was hard? So is it easy to do or not two people with two different answers.
Thanks

I also did the swap to my 95 prelude S...all you need is the el dash harness and a el cluster. Remove the old harness in the car and swap the el harness in and PRESTO you got an EL dash
. Its pertty easy but it will take you about 1-2 hours to do it.
I got my harness and a vtec cluster for 40 bucks, i did the swap because i was planning to drop a h22 in my S at the time...because those preludes that come vtec are hard to fine. It ended up i got one.

someone should just look into making the reverse indiglo guages with a black face instead of a white face, but i guess that would look like stock but brighter at night wouldnt it
Yeah im interested also. Also someone should do a how-to page for this, with pics and detail description for the install. What else is different about the 92-93's from the 94-96's??? For the essentials prelude link they should ad the differences between years!
So is this the fuel guage your refering to?
as in it being light-up (el) and digital?
Because all my dash is blue, and I have the digi EL fuel and temp guages.
Can somone post a pic of a non EL guage so I can compare plz.

They are in km/h because I am in Europe. Original ones were in km/h too.
But there is absolutely no difference in wiring, no matter if they are in km/h or mph.
It was hard because of differences in wiring between non-EL and EL ones (I got the EL gauges, but without complete EL harness, just the 5 cm cut plugs of EL gauge).

"I have the dash harness for sale. I was going to do the guage conversion but I decided that I need to know if my 4WS is working or not all the time."
Dear AndyD, you can still have info about 4WS system - the only thing to do with your non-4WS cluster is to bore a small (3 mm) hole in place where the 4WS light is located - of course to do this you should remove the front of your cluster to not to damage it - and put a small orange LED into this hole.
The 4WS light printed circuit exists even on the non-4Ws cluster board (but the lamp doesn't). Just connect the LED (you must determine the polarity before).
I think this solution is more agreable than no EL swap at all.

"so it is too much work? others say its plug and play?? so confused someone help."
1. You have EL cluster and non-EL dash harness : LOT of work to make the non-EL harness to work with EL gauges (it was my case)
2. You have EL cluster and EL harness : plug & play
