Default CAR WONT START. SOHC ZC. CAR STARTS SOMETIMES AND DIES.

okay. 89 civic si. sohc zc. my tps has been shot since i got the motor. havent gotten around to replacing it. its been doing the no start (just turnover) and irradic idle since i got the motor. my shop suggested spraying starter fluid into the intake whenever it did that. spray once and its turns on fine for 3 weeks straight. did it again, sprayed again. its all fine. my intake keeps falling off from the intake manifold because its not the proper one for it. i think its for an accord, a friend gave me to me, i didnt really ask questions. so i'll drive somewhere (ie: school) and it'll come off. it rained yesturday. okay. here's the problem at hand. went to go to work today and it did the turnover no start..sprayed the cone and it didnt work. so i sprayed it directly into the cold air intake where the clamp is by the intake manifold. and it started. i went to work for four hours. left and it took two trys for it to start. i went to get pizza, came back to the car (ten minutes) and it wouldnt start. i sprayed the intake. it started after a while, but it was at like 100 rpm, not 1,000. one hundred. it was the absolute closest idle could be to turning off the car but not. i gave it gas. and it didnt respond. it was like the gas pedal was disconnected!!!! it did this for about 10 seconds, then shut off. so i ran out the car to under the hood and move the throttle myself and nothing happened. i checked for codes and no codes. which is weird because its been showing a code 7 for the tps forever and its not even showing that. i have no idea what it is. only thing i can possibly think of is that it could be the fuel pump though i dont know much about them, i dont hear it priming when the key turns to the second position. i hope this was thorough enough for some answers. ANY help is appreciated, i have school and work and i neeeed my car. thanks all

replace the tps, and ive never heard anything about spraying something to get a car to start..kinda weird

if the tps doesnt fix the problem, then check your main relay, which is whats suposed to click when u turn over, and if thats bad, check ur dizzy, spark, then finally the fuel pump for possible clogging. if u can, run some fuel injector cleaner in with the next tank of gas.

Either your TPS is reading all crazy due to it going out or your shops great freakin recommendation to spray starter fluid into your IM is causing your car to diesel. All that starter fluid is is pretty much a paint thinner. Extremely flammable, its like kerosine. Its forcing those pistons to turn over god-willingly. Thats no way to properly maintain a car, get a new TPS, and you might need a new 02 with all this starter fluid you've been dumping into that car. The car running at 100rpm is probably due to the stater fluid FORCING the car to run, you probably could have shut it off and it would still run. It was leaning out to hell. Also, get another ECU and plug it in, make sure its not your ECU since it threw some codes now it isn't. - Darrell

everything you said, made exact perfect sense. thank you. i just went and bought a tps off ebay. Oh and a follow-up, i went to my car today. Sprayed it again (before reading this) and it started, so i just went directly home and i'm leaving it there. I dont want to get stuck again.
