Default Civic won't start

I have a 92 honda civic ,1.5 ,16 valve. The problem I have is it just stopped on me. 10 to 15 minute later it started and I was able to drive a short distance then it shut off again. It will turn over but will not start. I checked the fuel relay and it is ok. Fuses are ok. Changed the fuel filter. When I turn the key I can hear the fuel pump come on for 5 to 10 seconds. I guess that means it is working? I want to check the inside of the distributor but the roter will not come off. Just had it put on a year ago. Is there a trick to getting it off. (yes I did take out the screw) I also checked the spark plugs regapped and cleaned. So any ideas on what the problem is. I feel it is something simple. Thanks Big Dave

i had that prob in a 91 lx it was the rotor button i dont know any tricks to get the distibutor off but stick a screwdriver in the sparkplug wire to check for spark(need someone to crank engine) no spark get the distibutor off if there is spark dont bother it could be injectors or no fuel

well see if your wires are good. there are tools out there to use. Also the rotor will pull off <once screw is removed> how did you plugs looked before cleaning?
change plugs wires cap ,rotor and distributor coil,

which will run you about $40 plugs and wires

ok if that didn't fix the you looking at about $30-45 for cap and rotor

thenif it's not that the tray coil about $23-30

about $100 to fix it if this is the problem.

also check you compression too.

Thanks

you have a bad kanooter valve, those are important if you want the translux sensor working correctly!

but seriously my car did sumthin just like that and my fuel pump was bad. It would prime but once it warmed up it would just fail and my car would choke for about 30secs and then die. everyone told me my ignition system was fucked up but after checking it all out and checking a few other things I just took it to honda and the pump was bad so i just got another and it has been running fine till this day. you throwin any codes?

I can hear the fuel pump come on but it shuts off. Is there a test I can do to see if it is working properly

untighten the screw on top of the fuel filter and see if any gas sprays out. if it does then you have fuel pressure if not, then no fuel pressure.

pull the fuel line off the fuel rail and hold it up to a bucket then crank it and see if the fuel comes out. most people think that is the fuel pump primes then its not the problem but dont listen to that cause I did and it costed me good money for the honda dealership to find that out. so you arent throwin a cel?

well if you aren't getting spark then it is prolly the igniter. that was the problem with my 94. Honda wanted like $220 for it, so i looked on ebay and found a whole dizzy for $200 shipped overnight. Check out your options.

yea... Fuel or ignition is coming right to my head... fuel and ignition is pretty much the first thing u check.... so do the basic tune up stuff and then do SEAFOAM.... and burn the carbon out of it

I will try this monday. If the fuel pump is bad would it still send fuel out the line. Just not alot . Or will there be no fuel at all coming out the line. This was my first thought at what the problem could be. thanks for the advice
