Ok, so I know a while back honda switched over to some shitty fram made filters
for the normal civic oil filter.

But the s2k remained the same high qual oil filter.

However I also remember hearing that they eventually went ahead and switched the s2k filter over to the cruddy kind also.

so with an oil change coming up,
i'd like to know, should I go for an s2k filter,
or just go out and get a different brand?

why do you need oem?

you can get high quality without gettin factory ones

 

it is kind of an opinion thing...some people think OEM is better, some don't. You will just have to decide, I use OEM filters but that is just me. I am an OEM ***** when it comes to **** like that.

got a recommendation?
I like the old oem ones because they were known to be of high quality,
honda parts usually are, and their filters(at least used to be) a sure thing.

but yeah this is really the whole point of this thread,
it'll help me decide whether to go oem or not basically.

 

i use the s2k filter...no problems so far and in my opinion its one of the best moves i made and it is still made by the original manufacturer(sp?)not the crappy manu that all the other jonda filters are made by...if your gonna go with aftermarket try out WIX their filters are real good too too sizes also standard and oversized...oversized is the same size as the s2k filter btw

Oversized? i was under the impression the s2000 oil filters were a bit smaller, adding a little more oil pressure.

 

If you want the quality of oem, I know the civics take the same filter as v6 mitsu's part number MZ690116. Thats what i use. havent had any problems as of yet.

nope the oem civic filters are tiny the oem s2k filters are bigger

yea but they retain pressure fairly well

 

i havent tried the new civic filter to see a fuel pressure difference....i use the s2k....bigger will generally lower pressure , but mine is fine...i get about 75 at wot.

from my understanding now, since my last oil change a couple weeks ago, all honda filters are the same now, and honda only carries one type of filter for all of its car's/suv's/mini-van's. The bigger style filter is done with, and the smaller blue filter is the one you will be buying.

and they are the same size as the old civic filters.

 

K&N, or a good qaulity FRAM filter, you odn't need OEM.

But K&N is the best if you want to spend $10 for a filter

seems like everyone else is sayin the s2k's havent changed yet

 

Honda did switch to a Fram made filter fairly recently. I dont know about the S2K filter though. Purolator Pure 1 is a very good filter and its only 5-7 dollars.

Wal-Marts Supertech brand oil filters actually have great filtering numbers but the life-span is questionable. I would assume for a 3k change interval you would be fine with the Supertech.

I personally use Purolator Pure 1 and the oil in my 90' Yota still looks new after 2k miles. Unless you want to spend 10+ dollars for a K&N or Mobil 1 filter I would go with the Pure 1.

i just bought a filter 3 days ago and it was a toyo roki.... from what i have seen they havent changed their filters....

 

Some dealers carry Toyo Roki and some carry Filtech Inc.

I bought a few filters for the D-Series Part # 15400-PLM-A01 and they all had the Filtech Inc. on it, not Toyo Roki.

I'm guessing Toyo Roki is still making the filters for the high-end Hondas, while Filtech Inc. is making them for the low-end ones.

thats correct

 

toyo roki only makes the s2k filter , as it is the highest performance honda.....

yeh were trying to diagnose what the current s2k filter is,

i think its prettymuch set that all the other filteres are of lower qual. now.
