Overheating.......fan kicks on late, help please
Sup guys, Ill start things off by telling you what my setup is. 97 hatch. Motor is a 97 jdm type r, oem thermostat (new) oem fan switch, fluidyne radiatior, big end slim fan and spoon radiator cap.
Heres the problem, in traffic or at idle the temp gauge slowly creeps up. And when moving the temp goes back to normal. I know thats due to air passing through the radiator. First thing i did was bleed the system......that didnt help. Then I replaced the thermostat......no help there. After I replaced the thermostat I checked the fan and I noticed the fan would kick on late. The needle is about 75% up when the fan kicks on. I replaced the fan switch and im still having the same problems. I am stumped and i have no idea what the problem is. Any help or ideas are greatly apprieciated. Thanks

I don't know exactly, but I'll try to throw some of my 2 cents in. What I'm thinking is the trigger to hit on the fan is faulty, probabily kicks in late because the higher amount of heat compensates for its faultyness. I know you replaced basically everything related, but its a temperature switch, like a slow reaction therm. I'm not solving the problem, but hopefully this thought process may spark something up there
Oh BTW, I envy your car.....

is the thermostat an OEM or some aftermarket parts? i have the same problem on stock unit before, changed it to a Mugen and it never pass 45% ever.
btw, the way to bleed/Flush the system. I dont know, I unplug the upper hose and the cap then start the engine, throw in a water hose and keeps the water running into the radiator. after 15 mins, there is a great pile of brown colour build up on the floor..(which looks like sand)
I dont need to measure anything, but with all those build up in my cooling system?? im sure my engine runs happier then ever

yea dude like they stated above try to replace them at the same time. you said that you 1st did the therm. and then the fan switch so theres a chance if the fan switch was fualty that it might have fried the therm. for a 2nd time. since your gonna get new parts get a relay.if the cars over heatin the you must be throwin a check engine light do a code check to see what it might be before you buy. anything. sorry for the long @$$ reply just tryin to help
white smoke would more then likely be coming out of your exhaust if it was a blown headgasket.... so you can rule that out..... in my dads camaro he change the fan turn on temp via his hypertech into the ecu.... maybe its changed in yours??? i just got my honda so i dont know much about them... but maybe its that???

ill look into that, anyone else?
