Flashing Oil Warning Light
My oil warning light started flashing last night, what would that mean? I turned my car off then back on...and it went off. Ive noticed nothing wrong with the car, and no drops in performance. Its also only been like 1000 miles since my last change too. Whats the deal? Also, its a '92 Si

Good god brother, get some oil in that before j00 spin a bearing

Check your oil immediately. Since Honda placed the sensor on the bottom of the block the sensor doesn't start flashing until you have around a quart or so left. You're lucky if nothing has happened yet. In my case the same instant the light flashed on, bam lost a bearing, and the rod started knocking, and my car needed towing. A seal went bad on me while driving through Nevada.
If the oil checks out, then it's your sensor is bad or maybe some sort of electrical interference. Either way I would test the sensor, see if it's kicking out the right voltage.

Oil pan gasket is not your problem. I've had a bad seal there for almost a month and lose very little to no oil. I would worry more about your oil switch and pump than anything else. Get going about 40~MPH and brake hard. Try to get the oil light to turn on.
check your oil pressure sending unit, its a sensor on the back of the block that controls the oil light its got a ruber boot over it with a wire coming from it, I replaced mine with an aftermarker one (napa, checkers, pep boys etc.) and it started to leak two months later. When it went bad my oil light also came on but the oil was fine (just changed) but due to the pressure sending unit leaking it was "tricking"itself into thinking there was no/low oil. Replace yours with a oem honda part and you won't have any problems, thats what I did
One more thing to check (don't think anyone mentioned it) is the oil cooler o-ring. Start the car and see if oil is leaking from the cooler at the base fo the oil filter.
ok people, ive had no leakage whatsoever. My oil was changed like 800 miles ago, and i just put on a new filter, gasket, and i repaired my fucked up oil pan. It happened after i spun a buch of donuts in the rain. Could the sensors have just tripped out from the undulation. Again, my oil level is fine, and i have lost no oil. It hasnt come on since!
What would a knocking rod sound like? Would it be noticeable. All can really hear at idle is the hiss of my intake and the little air click kinda noises from the header. then just the hum of the engine.
Will someone describe what the knocking sounds like?

ok person, you didn't illustrate wether or not you had checked your oil when you described the symptoms. 9 times out of 10, the scenario you described is not a good thing. The only time that light had ever come on in my lude was when she blew a balance shaft seal and was not able to retain any oil at all. That night I had to put in a new seal and a timing belt while I was at it. These are things that ruin motors and all of our responses were out of every honda-tech members golden heart and genuine desire to help.
So yea.... ughh... Idunno.

I'd say you had all the oil on one side from the centrifugal force, therefore the sensor wasn't seeing enough oil pressure.

I appreciate the help. I havent seen noticeable leaks, but it turns out my oil was dry as a bone despite a recent oil change. Where would the balance shaft seal be located? And wheres the oil going?

is it burning or leaking...park your car with some cardboard underneath to see is its leaking. Do you notice any smoke from the exhaust.
Oh, and a rod knock sounds like the police are at the door and increases with the rpm...you will know it when you hear it

If you blew any of the seals on the front of the motor (where the balance shaft seals are), you would see a sizeable, and unmistakeable oil leak under your car. I caught mine while driving to work one day and oil had spewed all over the undercarriage and was visible at the rear wheels.
You would know it.
How recent was your oil changed? Is your drain plug there?

The second and third response to your question was check your oil. 4 days later, you FINALLY check it?
I would hate to ask you to go underneath the car and see if your drain plug fell out. Maybe your Oilfilter is loose. Despite the fact that you JUST CHANGED your oil, does not mean something could have happened.
And not to be a complete ***, but if you ask a question, and we tell you to check your oil, Check your damn oil lvl. NEVER assume that your oil lvl is ok, just because you changed it almost 1000 miles ago.
/sigh
some people amaze me.

I would argue that BECAUSE he just changed his oil, he should suspect something happened. And to TPreludeSi - every time I do an oil change I start it and look for leaks, and then check it several times over the next day or two.

I checked my oil before I even posted, when i said everythings okay i meant there were no leaks, no smoke, nothing of that sort. I meant, i had gone through oil, but i didnt know why.
My symptoms:
No leakage( i just had my drain plug and oil pan as well as my valve cover gasket replaced. I even got under the car to see as well as spreading light colored blankets under the car.
No smoke, i checked for smoke in the exhaust, nothing.
Nothin appears wrong, other than going through tons of oil in a short amount of time, the oil on the dipstick also appears darker than normal.
Now people, please dont have a field day with something that was mis worded. This isnt a ******* english study forum, its a car forum!. Now that ive been as completely clear as i possibly can, can someone tell me something other than i need ot check my oil? because i have!
Another Note: We used chevron 10w30 oil. I usually use synthetic but when we tuned my valves and replaced those gaskets i mentioned they just put in the chevron. Is it possible that i just burned through it really fast?

I would put a piece of cardboard under my car
and let it run for a few minutes, then take a look at the
cardboard and check to see if it's leaking anywhere.
I know you said you checked for leaks,
but maybe you should double check that.

Yes, it could be just leaking under pressure, so let it run a bit and check for leaks with it on. Also check and see if there is oil around the outside of your sparkplugs, as it sometimes leaks there from the valve cover and they can hold a decent amount. Also, after topping it off afterwards has it been using up any more oil?
So far it hasnt used any more oil...and still no leaks. I spread cardboard all over my garage and let the car run for about 10 minutes...i even revved it up a few times. Not a damn thing came out. The everything around the spark plugs was clean...and my oil level went down slightly.
