I have an autozone slim fan and stock single core radiator. Fan is setup at a pusher. Do you have your fan blades and polarity the right way? It make a difference.
Did you drain the system and refill at any point, the system may need bleed.
Make sure there are no air bubbles. Also did you make sure it was turning
on?

There should be a bleeder screw where the upper coolant hose connects to the block. Turn the screw to open the valve and let the car idle until coolant starts to bubble out.
Or, if you can't find the bleeder valve, just start the car with the radiator cap off. As the car starts to warm up, all of the air should escape out of the radiator opening.

is your thermostat sicking? check and make sure that the bottom hose is warm and the top hose hot. also i found it's better to have the fan blowing towards the motor.
Well, is it only when your sitting there, if it is then you need a better fan. But when your driving, there should be enough air flow and the fan shouldn't turn on (unless it's a hill or something with a heavy load, and your not going very fast)
Just a tip. I've seen people say that they squeezed the hose and shoo it around to make sure no air was getting trapped as they bleed the system.
It can definatley also be the thermo. sticking. Try getting a new one from autozone and if it does the same thing, just return it.
BTW I am boosted and run a slim line pusher on a half-zize radiator on my teg. No problems at all. The fan turns on as much as it used to with the stock radiator and not boosted

Slim line fans flow more then 2x the cfm as a stock radiator fan
